Well for one, we're all older now than we were when the BET awards started in 2000 or so. We relate less and less each year to the talent and begin to only check for certain performances. Whereas before, the entire show may have been of interest.

With that said, I do agree that the soul is missing in much of what we call black music. I can't imagine the youngsters truly "feel" most of these new artists the way we felt artists in the 90's. How do I know this? Well for starters, so many newer artists don't sing about anything of substance....they're not singing about heartbreak, love, conscious topics.

The real reason the soul is missing tho is because of $$$. The balance is gone. The balance of artistic integrity vs a check.

I feel where u coming from but even as a older cat (32) i still feel i have a young enough ear to know when bullshyt is bullshyt. Like i really feel the shyt out of Black Hippy.......but that Chiraq shyt :camby:. I can tell when someone has charisma, aura, mystique. Most people dont lose all of their senses when they turn 30. I remember riding in the car with my granma around the BluePrint era and flippin the channels in her car, and a Jay song came on and my granma listening to a 4 minute song and saying "i like this guy rappin...........he seems different" She was able to listen to a song, not know who was rapping from Adam, and pick out one of the GOATS. I dont see any GOATS, I dont see anyone out there that embodies blackness. I see Drake, a canadian jew, Robin thicke a white man, and a bunch of assorted nikkas older than me like Ross still being relevant. Its not a good look. Black music will have to destroy itself , reinvent itself and rebuild for it to be vital and of sustenance again.

It was a good run, but its over. Zero soul, zero style, what the hell happened, straight caced out

robin thicke singing country ballards on the bet stage, WTF

lionel richie didn't even perform the songs of his black people like

mike tyson being emasculated on national tv

nicki manij being the best rapper to perform

TI reduced to all levels of cornball putting on swagless performances with a cave bytch
who needs to be working outback steakhouse not rapper those weak ass bars in the corny white rapper voice

money mayweather wth the tight ass suit looking like reynold's wrap

Usher 36 years old, now a struggle dancer, who refuses to make age appropriate music

R and B singers are rappers now, the genre is dead

jennifer hudson, smh

jhene aiko, somebody get this bytch an app to the flaming wok

i used to love bet award shows. cant pay me to watch that shyt now. Im could probably have predicted your entire rundown and i aint watch a minute of the EBT awards. Nobody to get me excited. I dont wanna see Jhene Aiko warble about bullshyt, or Chris Brown twirl around the stage lipsynching. Just a bunch of c00ns on stage shucking and jiving, no real love of the craft, no real genius out there. The thing that used to set us apart from cac was soul. Black entertainers like James Brown all the way up to Andre 3000 used to embody soul. Now we gotta a bunch of wannabee superstars trying their best to kiss white asses and be Junior Associate Cacs. Wearing Euro faq droopy leather pants and womens blouses. This is probably the low point for black culture in America........ever
its sad that these posts have so much truth to them:to:

It's sad, but I'm actually happy this is happening. African Americans need to have a wake up call anyway. Our arts have been a soulless dying form for sometime now. nikkas will do anything for money, just watch interviews of your modern black entertainer and athlete cosigning Justin Beiber.

As for rap music,
It hasn't recovered since Gangsta Rap and the Jiggy Era came on the scene.

This exact same thread has been made literally every year without fail, since I can remember first posting on the :hamster: over a decade ago ...there are rap messegeboard cliches, and then there are "bytch about the BET awards" posts... which is something approaching a holy sacrament of generic jaded messegeboard commentary...it's an uncanny ceremonial precision to how it plays out EVERY fukking year too...always starts off with people tripping over themselves to let everybody know how they never watch BET, haven't done so in years, and have less than minimal interest in it...followed by like a 100 page thread of people critiquing every second of the show they have no interest in watching...and concluding it was the worst show in history, and the darkest day in our people's history

Music doesn't even sound like black music, like no swerve, no bounce, what is this shyt

are music is turning white, beyonce dances like a white girl trying to dance black, that song the played on the video is not black music

john legend only nikka with talent

movies looking terrible

man I don't know, I gotta do something, this is bad ten years from now, I cant imagine
