Well like I said, you can have the option for the system to just log you in as soon as you turn it on
You can have Kinect sign you in once it recognizes you (most common)
And sometimes Kinect will log you in thinking the next man is you (not very common)
If any of those scenarios happen, then even if his brother was logged in, he would still see the notification
And I would then probably let his friends know as well. My partner did 5months recently
I started getting messages from people I hardly knew of, that were not on my friendslist, but remembered my name from us all playing COD zombies together (thats all they played)
They thought homey was dead, I had to tell them he was locked up. Then i felt almost compelled to tell all his friends on live this. (I didn't but wanted to)
If he actually died, then I would have
