It’s the future of the business

It’s sad that it took fox to get them there

But triple h has proven he can pull this off between the cruiserweoght and Mae Young classic presentation

the future?

its already the present. this is where the business has been for years.

the WWE is just always the last ones to show up to the party, but the first to take credit for things while they water chit down for mainstream mass consumption.

As earlier noted, Daniel Cormier recently talked about wanting to commentate in the WWE, and said that his audition had to be pushed back because of his upcoming fight at UFC 230. Daniel Cormier will defend the UFC Heavyweight Championship against Derrick Lewis in the main event, inside Madison Square Garden on November 3rd

Dave Meltzer shed some more light on the situation during the most recent Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer noted that the Fox executives like Cormier, and with UFC moving to ESPN from 2019, the network wants Daniel Cormier to sign with the WWE as a commentator.

“The Cormier thing is, Fox wants Cormier", Meltzer revealed. "That's the deal. That's where that (news) comes from. Vince isn't yelling as much at the guys on SmackDown every week, because Vince doesn't go to SmackDown that much anymore. And they want him (Cormier) for SmackDown. Although when SmackDown's on Fox on Friday, that may all change. He (Vince) may be at every SmackDown again. But Fox wants Cormier, that's the deal with Cormier. Because number one, they want more of a sports presentation, and number two, they love Cormier from the UFC, and they don't want to lose him. So that's what that is about.”

Here’s the thing tho: if you make smackdown more sports focused, wouldn’t raw have to be that way or would it still be the variety show?

Conventional wisdom would tell you to do Smackdown like Fox wants it (more focused on sports and a better product) and if there's a marked improvement in the overall show and ratings, take those lessons learned to Raw and make that better as well......

but they're anything but conventional so I could see SmackDown six quality being back on Fridays with Carlito/Hornswoggle Acme-level comedy coming back to Raw to "balance things out". :snoop:

:russ: @ Acme level comedy. That almost feels insulting to the looney tunes tho.

That shyt is true though. But it’s going to be weird to have NXT be sports based and smackdown also, but leave Raw as this ridiculous 3 hr variety show. At that point raw is the outlier

Rumor has it WWE is considering ending the brand split once SD goes to Fox

Pretty sure that would result in the booking being even worse somehow, but they're not about to suddenly act like Raw isn't their marquee show all of a sudden (even though conventional wisdom would suggest that a primetime slot on one of the big four broadcast networks would elevate Smackdown to "A" status), and they sure as shyt aren't going to not find a way to get their biggest stars on broadcast TV.
