Capcom should just go all in on fighting games. But we already know they gonna just blow their entire budget on a shytty Resident Evil action game.:mjcry:

Low key I think a new Darkstalkers would do really well. SF fans would be all over it, its pretty much SF with more wild shyt going on. And new players might be into the whole monster, werewolf, vampire thing. I think kids these days like vampires and shyt right? :flabbynsick:

Never owned a Dreamcast so I didn't really play the Rival Schools series, but Capcom bringing back any of these old/classic titles would do well I feel. They're just so scared of taking a chance and losing money that they won't go through with it. Yall remember when they teased a possible new Darkstalkers game a few years back? They ended up re-releasing Darkstalkers 1 & 2 with few upgrades, just for a test to see if fans wanted another game. Not the best way to decide that IMO. It didn't do well and to my understanding, they scraped the idea. That or they put it in the BACK back burner.

Yeah its sad. Put out an old game on xbox arcade and decide if the series is worth it based on that? Not necessarily the greatest idea. To get an IP over you gotta take a risk and market it.

But with sony completely funding SF5 Capcom may have money on the side to work on something besides Resident Evil. Darkstalkers collection sales aside, there does seem to be a growing demand for fighters. Were seeing even companies like Nintendo hiring the Tekken peeps to make a fighter. Theres mad money to be made here but we dunno what these Capcom folks are thinking. These are the same people who didnt even want to make SF4.

Exactly. Like I've said I've never played the Rival Schools games, but I'll probably cop or at least really consider it if Capcom decided to bring it back.

Rival Schools, a Capcom fighting game series from the late 90s and early aughts, sees players chose teams of two students to fight for the honor or their high school. It wasn't as popular as some of Capcom's other fighting titles, but even after only one update to the original game and a sequel, the series maintains a small following.

Now, over 15 years after the last game, series director Hideaki Itsuno hinted he'd like to get a sequel made. When asked in an interview with CFN Portal about when he would get around to making a new Rival Schools game, Itsuno replied by saying, "I want to make one even now!" He hinted at having already completed the scenario for the game, and urged fans to tweet at him using the hashtag #rivalschools3. "Batsu, Hinata and Kyosuke haven't graduated yet," he said in the interview. "They started their third year just when the story finished."

The full interview dives into the history of both Rival Schools and Star Gladiator (a 3D fighting series). Itsuno talks about how the concept for Rival Schools came to be, the designs of a few characters and how the ratio of male-to-female characters was higher in the series than in most other fighting games because of the game's high school setting.

Our Take
I'm excited about the return of any obscure fighting game series, but I'm a bit skeptical about Rival Schools. The characters and setting would be nice to see again, but Capcom would have to add a few twists to the game's actual fighting to make it interesting today.

Have any data to back that up? I was a big fan of Rival schools back in the arcade days. It seemed like tekken and Marvel vs capcom had far more people playing.
Tekken and MvC were bigger but that doesn't mean Rival Schools wasn't popular. Not even 100% sure what "data" you would be referring to or what your overall point is.

Man there needs to be a section of capcom that releases just fighters. Fighters that dont get patched or updated or flooded with DLC.

RS and PJ were great, but part of the charm was the broken mess that they were also.
