Nah, roasting forces you to tighten up. Plus, I believe it prepared us to handle criticism in later in life.

The issue is most roasting is really bullying.
The main targets are people that have low social status.

Insults hurled at one another under the guise of comedy because you’re too p*ssy to say it with ya chest. Catch these fists and then you want to cry and say it was jus a joke man. I used to be roasted and I wasn’t letting no punk put me down to make himself feel better. A joke or two is cool but to stand there and insult someone repeatedly is juvenile

Get some old heads in a room, and they will over-compliment each other to the point of absurdity.

The roast and the compliment are 2 sides of the same coin. The culture praises verbal dexterity, truth telling, and keeping it real.

I get that it's cool now to diss where we came from, everything is toxic, blah, blah blah - but folks really don't get it.

I'm a pretty decent-looking cat and I've had people try and roast me for basically standing still.

Others got zero problems at all because they comfortable with who they are.

Basically hater shyt. I've learned to fire back (somewhat good at it too) but it's dumb.

If I'm doing something fly or just being me without harming anyone and you got a problem then that's for you to work out before it consumes you.
The sooner kids/people learn to process this the better. That's why mental health is vital.

Im a soft woman. I got roasted for being skinny (you can hula hoop with a cheerio, etc). It hurt, I was insecure for a long time, tried to gain weight, but in the grand scheme of life, it doesn't even register with me anymore. Hasn't in a long time.

If you as an adult are still struggling, I think therapy may be warranted because there's obviously trauma. I can't say I understand that, though.

Telling your mama jokes/playin the dozens/roasting was definitely a part of the culture growing up.. Definitely helps you build thicker skin and not take your self so seriously.. Some folks definitely caught it worse than others but it was all out of fun.. The youth today are soft as fukk lol.. I'm a Gen Xer and all we use to do is clown each other.. nikkas would get clowned until they were ready to fight lol.. We clowned teachers until they cried LMAO!!! In grade school my ribs stayed hurtin lol.
