A man armed with a machete shoplifted at a Grocery Outlet store, fought with employees and later bit a police officer, according to the Oregon City Police Department.
Police were called out to the store on Molalla Avenue at 10 a.m. Sunday.
A 911 caller reported a strong armed robbery and a suspect fighting with two employees outside the store.
Investigators said Monty Ray Buck, 21, of Oregon City, shoplifted merchandise and then left the store. He was confronted by the employees, who realized Buck was armed with a machete and a knife.
During the confrontation, police said the workers were able to get the machete away from Buck and keep him outside the store until officers arrived.
Buck was taken to Willamette Falls Hospital as a precautionary measure. The Oregon City Police Department said Buck tried to escape police custody while at the hospital and bit an officer.
That officer was treated for his injury and released from the hospital.
Buck was booked in the Clackamas County Jail on charges of robbery, resisting arrest, attempted escape, assaulting a public safety officer and criminal mischief. His bail was set at $295,000.
