The thing that made RDJ and tropic thunder passable was the ridiculousness of it and the fact that they actually had Brandon T Jackson in the movie calling out the actor for using blackface.

it was the meta commentary of the whole thing.

Usually with blackface cacs are just so lazy and uncreative that they slap it on and call it a joke or say they’re trying to make some hollow point that isn’t clear.

I don’t think folks realize nobody is more sensitive now, it’s just social media gives people a voice, and we know how people feel.
I'm glad somebody said it. Anti-pc mfs really think this the first time in history people been having these convos:mjlol:

Like 2 Live crew came out with pop that p*ssy and everybody was cool with it :mjlol:

Like this the first time comedians have had backlash for jokes about gay people :mjlol:

They be the biggest pussies too. Like they can't handle being challenged on anything

:mjlol:Scared to say what they got to say and be done

Doesn’t make it any less funny today as it did back then. People are overly sensitive, in no way was he making fun of black people he was making fun of whites trying to act black and it was god damn hilarious

They were poiking fun at method /acting/actors who go to extremes to get into character.. Jared Leto, Daniel Day Lewis, etc.

I don’t think folks realize nobody is more sensitive now, it’s just social media gives people a voice, and we know how people feel.

The problem is social media has given alot of nobody nothing ass freelance/journalist/writers a voice to express every brain fart they have and alot of them think they are on some level because they are verified/blue checked... They are the main ones stirring up faux outrage.

Yup, and the media within the movie was calling him a brilliant actor that was going to amazing lengths to become the character, while the actual black actor was giving him the :martin:the whole time.

The movie makes fun of Hollywood and how ridiculous it is. I talked about in another thread about this, how studios would rather hire a white actor to play a black character than a black actor. Even the only black actor in the movie wasn't an actor, he was a rapper. Someone the studios hired so they could send to BET and MTV to promote the movie.

Love this movie and i have since its first dropped. I feel like rdj played the role perfectly. Like ppl said above, part of the gag was how absurd it was that he was going blackface in the movie. When he says "What do you mean YOU PEOPLE" and then alpa Chino says, "what do YOU mean? You people!?"

That line sums up the meaning of rdj's role to me. Now, i dont think in 2020 with this sensitive, look for ANY reason to be buttsore culture that this movie could happen again, but its a reach to act like the blackface in this movie wasnt self-deprecating and all satire. Just one mans opinion :yeshrug:
