Does look like he doesn't believe in the being born in the right time, area, class thing from Outliers though but it's definitely true.

The most successful rappers entrepreneurs mogul types are all from the same city and born within 6 years of each other. All witnessed the golden era etc.

Same way most of the biggest artists from the 00's are from the South.

Master P and Baby?

They not in the big 3 of hip-hop moguls. Net worth, nobody is higher than Diddy, 50 & Jay in hip-hop. Not even Russell, his time came a little too early. Even the rappers with the most "longevity" came from that era.

P & Baby operated out of the system and got a lot of their money by being independent on cashing in on that independent success on a major. The other 3 did all their business within the system and have more money to show for it.

Same way the Southern class of '03-'07ish will have the longest longevity give or take a few years. That's when the South really took over and it's stars took the limelight. Wayne, Tip & Jeezy. Even on the underground tip Gucci's popularity doesn't make sense but he came up in the right era for southern artists to be remembered.

as someone said before he seems to be rehashing Gladwell's Outliers that argued a person achieves "master" status after 10,000 hours of working on a specific craft. He cites numerous different examples of people everywhere of all walks of life being exposed to extraordinary circumstances in which they were in a privileged position to receive top quality apprecticeship and a seemingly endless amount of time to hone their skills. Mixing that opportunity with obsessive ambition, and the likes of Bill Gates or the Beatles is the end product.

I am tired of this fukking know-it-all writers who cashing in on basic desires of people.

Robert Greene fakkit is one of them. If he is The Master (:rudy:) then why all he does is writing books about how to become something.

Useless shyt.

Robert Greene isnt a psychologist, military adivisor, etc. That is to say, he's not an expert specializing in any field. He's just a guy with a BA in the classics that was able to flip that into becoming a self-help guru by being popularized by guys like 50 cent and the "seduction" community.

This isn't to say that what he writes can't be interesting or thought provoking. Just try to cut through the bullshyt and ego while cross-referencing what he says with what experts in different fields say, what studies say, etc.

Depends on what you're trying to accomplish. For example, if a person wanted to become a writer, Greene would be a "Master". Out of the millions of writers in the world, he is one of the few that have actually sold books.

One of the biggest things Greene talks about in this book is putting your ego aside and learning from someone who is doing what you want to do. He doesn't talk about shortcuts or being born rich, but having the balls to actually put in work and learn from someone how to do something you enjoy. People now think everything is like a computer game where after a few hours you learned something.

Andre Harrell worked for Russell a few years and went out and did his own thing. Puff came in learned from Harrell and then went out and did his own thing. The evidence is there in countless situations even if people don't admit it. Ted Turner said his dad told him off when he got accepted into Brown University to study classics. His dad told him what the hell is classics going to teach you about dealing with people in the real world? Ted eventually came around and learned business from his father.

I'm not defending anybody, but how many people are REALLY putting time into what they claim to love?

His books aren't for me. He basically provides you with Cliff's Notes of other writers/philosophers/historical figures. I would skip his works and go to the source.

On the other hand, I think that he is a good writer; not excellent. I think he should try his hand at historical fiction.

I'm sure everyone who has read his stuff knows that. I have no problem with him combining all the material into one collection.
