That Double Jeopardy movie really fukked up people's perception of that rule.

Double jeopardy just means you can't get tried for a specific case and incident again after being ruled unless they declare a mistrial or there was some bribery/tampering going on, not that you can't be charged for the same crime again. There'd be no such thing as repeat offenders if double jeopardy worked the way nikkas think it did

I'm an old head brehs, about to be 40 in a few years. Those Aaliyah rumors were loud and constant during the mid-90's, even without social media and today's 24/7 news cycle. The same time she was blowing up off "Back & Forth" you started to hear the chatter on Wendy and Angie and the Hip Hop gossip circles of the time. I know some people act like that was a rumor that snowballed over the years but it definitely goes all the way back.

I used to also intern at Jive Records (R. Kelly's label at the time) and then worked at Battery Studios, which is the in-house studio for Jive and all its artists.

The older engineers who used to bounce between the NY and Chicago studios used to tell the same stories we've always heard about way-too-young looking girls and long studio sessions with plenty of jail bait around but no actual music being recorded. I vividly remember them telling us that he would be locked in there for days at a time with these girls, come out days later with nothing being done for the album.

And of course, the sex tape. Anyone who's seen it can tell you that girl was clearly underage, and I'm not talking 17.

As a parent of a daughter the parallels between this and the MJ situation, and the why's and how's of how the parents allowed certain stuff to fly baffles me to no end.

Before I knew R. Kelly as an R&B great I heard about the stories of him and underage women and I was no more than 10 at the time.
