The problem is that, her fanbase is 90% more geared to stream her music. There are 12-17 year olds who don’t even know what it's like to go to a store and cop an album. Her base is full of kids that age. Millions of them. All they know is streaming. So RCA is going to target and market to these groups, and they're all gonna run to the DSP's to listen to the songs. Then she'll get her fake platinum plaque and be happy, lol.

With Nas, DSP's are seeing him as a "legacy artist". So his fans are mad older and don’t typically spend a lot of time streaming. So they'll either pop in occasionally and listen, or they'll wait for the vinyl to drop or just cop on iTunes. When that happens, there's no need to even bother with streaming because you have the sh*t on your phone. So you don’t need to go anywhere else to listen. Older people have the money to pay for music. So when dudes like Nas drop, his numbers on streaming aren't going to be anywhere close to what we see with these pop type rappers. Kids are streaming all day everyday, and also people who weren't even born when Illmatic dropped.
Yeah I'm a :flabbynsick: Nas fan and don't stream. Tried to cop KD3 on cd on Nas' site when it dropped, saw cds were coming months later and bookmarked it. Forgot about it went back to cop one and they were sold out.

How is what possible? That's exactly what happened, I don't stream. I usually just cop mp3s off amazon to play off of bluetooth in my car or more rarely cop cds/vinyl.

Streaming changed the game and Billboard made a system for old heads to still be able to gauge their shyt.

Truth is - like it's always been- we don't know what an artists banks and legs are important. :yeshrug:

We can calculate what the record owner gets cause that's a lot more than when there were cd's, but we don't know the song owners split.
The only thing that's interesting is the ranking, i.e. who is #1 #10 #50... and for how long, from a market perspective. And that's the same as it's always been

Word. I don’t know many day one Nas or Hip Hop fans who stream like that. A lot of us prefer to have our music either on vinyl or to just load up our phones with mad music. I've been rolling around with the same million gigs of music for the past two decades, lol. Some I've just downloaded and others digitized from old cassettes and CD's or vinyl. I'll stream every now and then too, but it's still not my first choice. I listen to way too much stuff you can't even find on there.
