:why: This sounds like some shyt straight out of the owners excuse handbook. Ask the middle class of the MLB how they are doing.

:rudy: At a salary cap helping the players as opposed to hurting them. And then you have the nerve to say Lebron doesn't need to get paid 25m more than some scrub ass nikka. Do you have any idea how much revenue a player like Lebron generates for his team and the league?

I understand in the spectrum of things that Lebron generates more then hes paid in salary

But all I'm saying is if I'm a middle to lower class NBA player, no way am I voting yes to pay Lebron more and me less. That's it.

It would be cool if Lebron got paid more but I'm not gonna sacrifice everyone else so the top 2-3% of players can cake up more then they already do.

Again, this is sounding like some shyt that owners say in labor negotiations. It's enough money for everybody to get paid their worth. If the NBAPA had a vote, you don't think they would overwhelmingly vote in favor of eliminating the salary cap:heh:

Like I said, go and ask the middle class of the MLB how they are doing. I don't hear any complaints on that side. The NBA just signed a TV deal worth over 20 billion. 20 billion nikka:damn:

You think average players would be hurting if the salary cap would be eliminated? The truth is, that they would get paid more, much more. Salaries would be up across the board, not none of this only the stars will benefit rhetoric.

If the NBA became a more free market, the only thing that would happen is that the revenue would get distributed more evenly, which benefits the players.

you keep bringing up the owners and I'm not talking about them at all, this is strictly about the players

you remove the luxury tax threshold and eliminate "max" salaries and things will only stratify to a greater degree FOR THE PLAYERS

there isn't even a hard cap to begin with, so I don't even know why we're having this discussion

Just let the whole concept of a salary cap sink in. The shyt is dumb as hell. And I'm talking about any profession, not just the NBA.

I guess the best leagues to use as examples would be the soccer leagues in Europe where no such regulations exist.

The first issue is parity. In La Liga for instance there are two teams that dominate the league - Real Madrid and Barcelona - and because they can afford to pay on average the highest salaries of any sports teams in the world, they tend to monopolize all of the best players. This leads to the league being a two horse race.

The drawback is that both of these teams are in astronomical debt. While it may not be a problem for them as they are veritable cultural institutions of their respective cities, it is a risk for the smaller teams who are paying beyond their means to stay competitive. These teams run the risk of insolvency in the long run.

If the same principal is applied to the NBA, there will be scenarios where mega-rich owners can monopolize the best players and create quasi all-star teams. There would be no competitive balance, and would almost render the NBA draft moot. The quality of the league would be watered down and that would in turn lead to a decline in viewership. Teams at bottom of the league would fold and the NBA has a responsibility first to make sure the league is profitable, and it does so by regulatig the members of its association that they won't incur unnecessary debt. I used to have your line of thinking, but the regulation makes sense. The NBA probably has the best business model in sports and they are reaping the rewards in terms of profitability and now huge network deals, not to mention a considerable raise in the overall team salary caps.

The cap actually does help mid level players though...

With no cap a team is going to pay the lebrons and kd's of the world 100's of milions of dollars...

and then every else probably won't get anymore than 5 or 6...

The CBA is designed to do 2 things...

Save the owners from overspending and running their franchises into the ground financially

Make sure the lower tier players...who don't get a ton of endorsement deals or anything outside of basketball...get paid...

shyt even with a salary cap damn near half the teams in the nba lose money every year...

What you think going to happen if you let them spend as much money as they want?

And I don't think it should be like this...I think all these billionaire owners need to be held accountable for their actions and if your team folds your team folds...

But realistically all but about maybe 12 teams would fold inside of a decade and who wants to watch that?

Now the flip side of this...is you have a team like the spurs...who drafts better than anyone...manages the cap better than anyone...has the best front office in the league...has the best coach in the league...

So the salary cap boom is going to give these dudes a borderline ridiculous advantage over damn near every other nba team...they are already the best at damn near everything that has to do with running an nba team...and now you are about to give them a ton of cash over the next 4 years to work with...

shyt this is just year one and look what they did...they have built a damn near super team for relatively cheap...as opposed to what cleveland is doing, paying the most it can for every player it gets...

Spurs going to go through stretches where they have 1st ballot hall of famers coming off the bench this year...

Never mind the fact that he made 234 million over his career.

He'll be ok
What are you his accountant??

Black players should never be trying to save billionaire owners from themselves. I wouldn't mind this pay cut if Duncan didn't take the first one. There was no need for a pay cut the first time around.
