Batista's perfectly booked character during the build to WM21, where he didn't have to speak much but came across as a supremely confident babyface who had Triple H completely shook, would have been ideal for Reigns today. He likely would have been comfortable in that role, and he could have handled it convincingly.

I`m not sold that this is the case.

Issue is the WWE want to protect him so much they keep him connected to that Shield character because the Shield was the best new character they have developed in the last decade.

So they keep him attached to that thinking the fans who loved the Shield will still love him, because he had the same presentation as the Shield. But funny thing is, the other 2 wrestlers are what endeared people to the Shield the most.
