Kobe very, very rarely did that. It's why the Lakers got guys like Ariza and Artest to guard the other team's best player, so he wouldn't have to. Kobe would play lock-down defense a few possessions a game, but he spent most of the games either hidden on an inferior player or playing a free safety role trying to steal passes in the lane.
