I understand OP's playoff gripes. If the NBA went by the same rules as most domestic leagues, the Hawks would've been the champs which is hilarious when you think about it now. To people who've grown up with the American sports system, crowning someone a regular season champ and leaving it at that goes against what they know about sports (not to mention ties).

Also I know the domestic cup tournaments are played concurrently but are they a top priority for teams that have a chance to win the league?

P.S.: I've tried to keep up with the Premier League since the NBC Sports deal started but those game times are terrible in the states.

The Hawks would not have had the best record if there was no playoffs. That shyt forces you to play hard every night and not take games off.

We Americans always want to change shyt that we don't understand.

However, a Epl playoff with only the top 4 teams would be hype as fukk.

Football fans already know he's the greatest. Who does Lionel still have to prove it to? You? :heh:
nikkas really denying Messi GOAT status. :mjlol:

He's the best passer, dribbler & scorer ever. Constantly dominates big games & carried Argentina to a WC final.

Go to bed.. your making no sense

Beckenbauer was left in awe by the Argentine's brilliance at Camp Nou but the Germany icon says that Brazil legend Pele is still the greatest talent he has ever seen.

"Messi's amazing," the 69-year-old told L'Equipe. "For several months now, he has rediscovered his best form.

"For Barcelona, he is the one that makes the difference. Without Messi, Barcelona would be just another team.

"It's like when Bayern destroyed Barca in the semi-finals of the Champions League two years ago [winning 7-0 on aggregate] and Messi was not right.

"But now he is the best player in the world and of his time.

"However, the best ever is Pele. He is just ahead of Messi. I've never seen a player like Pele.

"I played with him at the New York Cosmos and you would give him the ball and just not see him again because he was too fast.

"Pele was all instinct."

Legendary figures, coaches, players who saw both say Pele, Maradona... but no lets all listen to some football fans on twitter :beli:

The NFL invalidates your initial argument. There is nothing wrong with regular season being important to determine playoff seeding
The NFL can't have too many games per year due to injuries and stuff, they would need 62 game seasons to have a real league system, which can't happen.
It's optimal by construction of the sport, which makes it hard to compare to other sports.

Others would say that soccer is optimal with the dynamic setting with League, CL and League cup system.

Others would say that NBA/NHL is the optimal system due to the winners most likely being the best team.

Point was that too many games and playoffs like NBA/NHL, leaves a lot of games being irrelevant. Hell even though I'm a bigger basketball fan I rarely watch full games on TV until after SB.

Not really. Regular season schedule would be totally different if the NBA went by the same rules :manny:

Happens everytime. Before the 06' World Cup a lot of people were saying Ronaldinho was 1 WC win away from being the GOAT :mjlol:

When it comes to futbol I just can't even start a "GOAT" list/conversation. The ammount of beast players is way too big and it goes beyond strikers and attacking midfielders :yeshrug:

i like the format tbh.

you play every team in the league twice. home and away. so teams don't benefit from playing in weak conferences or division like in the nfl or nba.

the bottom 3 teams get regulated and sent to the 2nd division which makes the lower teams still have something to play for instead of the nba where teams blatantly tank and lose on purpose to get a top pick, so it creates competition top to bottom.

the structure rewards for the most wins and the fewest losses. it also creates drama during the season to where every match matters because you want to get as many points as possible.

the only thing that sucks is there is absolutely no parity. you can't go from worst to first because there is no draft and teams just poach each others talent. it must suck being a fan of a lower tier EPL team knowing you have NO SHOT in ever winning the prem over clubs like manU, chealsea, arsenal, liverpool, and recently man city. and if you develop your own superstar, he'll just leave to a bigger club.

It just amazes me this sport is so popular. Silver and Goodell gotta be amazed they arent killin that wack azz sport globally.

Nfl playoffs:blessed:
They're not killing it because soccer fits(fitted) the global agenda...there is an Agenda behind keeping soccer on your tv screen. We'll see if that agenda changes with this FIFA shyt.

In the NBA you play each team at the very least, twice. So it's not that different.

I know, but my point was that the NBA regular season is not as balanced as a league schedule :manny:

Messi

-Pumped full of steroids as a teen
-Tax Cheat/Money launderer
-Playing in stacked teams with Xavi, Fabregas, Henry, Eto'o, Ibrahimovic, Villa, Neymar, Suarez, Ronaldinho
-Playing against plumbers and electricians from Getafe and Cordoba

I mean, I'm not mad at people thinking Messi might be the GOAT. There's an argument to be had (I don't agree with it, but I get it), but people claiming he's the "undisputed" best ever is :dahell:

You have people saying that if Pele played in today's game he'll be an afterthought. Hell, he may very well be, idk. But you put Messi in the 60's and he probably gets a career ending injury in the first Newells vs Rosario Central game he plays :pachaha:
