Everyone, including them, acknowledges they were dumb for letting it ride this long. They thought Joe would never snake them..and boy were they wrong

But you’re positioning it as if they didn’t both decide not to show up for the last pod, prompting the firing. It’s safe to say as of last Tuesday they were done. Joe “fired” them after they quit

What’s craziest to me is Rory allowing Joe to yell and cuss him out on multiple occasions as if he’s a child. I don’t know how he let that slide as a grown man

I mean Rory is currently a 30 year old white boy who has to walk on egg shells lol. When they started he was like 23 deal with one with all the leverage in joe budden

The chemistry of the podcast improved when he joined, true.

But the popularity of the podcast, the audience they pulled in, that was definitely Joe. Joe the rapper. Joe the failed rapper doing fan meetups to play kickball. Joe the failed rapper turned reality star getting sucker punched on camera. Joe the grumpy old man screaming on everyone at Complex and almost getting faded by the migos.

It’s not a coincidence the pod took off when he was burning down Complex.

He created the audience and their chemistry kept people tuning in. No one would have been checking for their chemistry if it wasn’t first for Joe creating interest.

Mal explicitly said this in the response. That Joe the rapper started the whole shebang but it still wouldn't be where it was without the co-hosts. I was a pod listener day 1, even a fan of Joe's music before it all. That pod was shaky the first year or so until Mal came along which elevated the dynamic.

No way to defend Joe on this one. I definitely was of the opinion that these dudes were replaceable workers and were overestimating their worth. With respect to the chemistry they brought, Joe is the catalyst for all of this shyt. Why y'all need to see the books?

But the SECOND they said they had a deal based on PERCENTAGES? I had to bush the hell out of that take. It changes so much, and while Joe already looked funny, and has looked funny in like EVERY situation for the better part of 20 years, that ended any meaningful benefit of the doubt he seemed to have.

Its of no surprise, really. I think that the reason Joe has enjoyed his success is that he is the sort of crazy, destructive ass dude...who pulls bad women. Volatility is entertaining to people from a distance. But you can't talk all of this creator shyt, and jam your mans up like that.

These dudes clearly shoulda read the writing on the wall WAY fukking sooner. But it is what it is.

Yeah these nikkas don’t know. I think the pod would have still been successful without Mal but when Mal came it definitely hit a different gear to really propel it to be one of the top of the top podcasts

Joe’s a shytbag but let’s not revise history. His first album sold almost 100k first week when people were actually leaving their homes to legitimately purchase albums instead of using “album equivalent unit” metrics for “sales”. And he got critical acclaim for his Mood Muzik series. He’s a punchline now and a generally bad person, but he definitely had musical success.
