No doubt they belong, but I've seen tons of top 5-10 lists without them on it, particularly top 5's, but i don't think i've ever seen one without 2pac, shyt is just clear personal distaste from whoever made this shyt. People are giving this shyt too much attention and relevance though, in essence this weirdo who made the list is saying Kendrick Lamar and Lil Wayne (and Lauryn Hill, lol, she was a beast but she's been MIA for how long?) are greater than 2pac, Cube, Face, Common Sense, LL, Redman, etc... i don't think something so dumb even warrants attention. and, squeezing Rakim on there sticks out like a sore thumb, they just did that cause they thought it'd add some sort of credibility because he's from the 80's and people mention him on message forums, lol, bet whatever that they never heard a rakim album.
First off, i just wanna respect you for coming at me respectfully. When you discuss 2pac or Biggie ever since they died people go bonkers if you don't praise them as gods basically.
I know it's frequent to see them, but just like you said about Rakim - imagine 2 dead rappers who were way more mainstream?! So it's kinda the same but even worse. But i do feel it's crazy to think that unless you put them on there it's some bugged out shyt. That says alot about hip-hop in general.
You're right about Lauryn. I love Fugees/Lauryn, but she's living off 1 solo & 1 group album (that the public are most familiar with). She's very talented but she didn't put that much of a dent in the game. Most of her album was written songs by others too. Like one of those run-of-the-mill industry albums with alot of behind the scenes collaborations in terms of writing etc. But other than dat it's based on image. That she didn't shake her ass or whatever - which is GREAT!, but IMO still doesn't matter when you talk about GOAT rappers. As far as female mcs, she's up there. Her, Lady Of Rage, Yo-Yo, Eve, Latifah, Lyte & etc are up there in my list.
Lil' Kim's music was cool but i feel like i could see thru the business strategy with her. Like mostly a performer (with tons of rappers & a giant team) to female market. Nicki is ALMOST the same.
Dog, this is what they do! Now people are discussing this. This is literally the same shyt that has been happening each year since 2006. Remember them MTV hot list? Remember the MTV all-time list? Remember Complex list? XXL list? The list goes on.
And as always people go for it & discuss it. Radio (ie. Hot 97) knows the game too. But they play into it too cuz it's a hot topic and eventually they'll get ratings too.
They do this. And they also know it will cause a reaction no matter what it is. So i feel you, but i don't think alot of other people can think that far.
But once again i salute you & feel you on some points.
