Yeah but Tarver didn't go up 25 lbs the year before and did a massive weight cut in his mid 30s...5 years earlier..Tarver gets absolutely massacred.
cant blame tarver for that, he showed up and rocked that jaw

Roy said “when you saw Mayweather fight, you never thought he couldn’t be beat. When you saw Roy fought you thought nobody could beat him”

He shoulda said

“When you saw Mayweather fight you knew nobody could beat him. When you saw Roy fight you knew he could beat anyone”

Dude spent six years in the heart of his prime fighting mid opponents that was easy matchups stylistically. Everyone between Castillo II and De La Hoya was an average talent outside Zab who a well known headcase. Better fights was there to be made the whole time. He made up for it after but that stretch he was not fighting best opponent available at any point.
What were the better fights ?
He fought hatton
It takes 2 to make a fight
Only names he didn't was Paul Williams who moved up and amir Khan who got chinned in every other big fight

only when his skills started to erode, when he young he was a beast when he was focused
His resume is the most handpicked and he lost every major matchup in his career, got destroyed and completely broken down in every big name fight he had

With that said, he was the most talented and naturally gifted of our lifetime (still)

And despite this his catalog is filled with most cherrypicks possible, like we’re talking about nearly every fight and then he just rose through the handful of mediocre talents at the top of the rankings before being placed in matchups that actually mattered, and he lost every single one of those as well as any other match that turned into a fight

I thought Teddy Atlas was a hater when he said this but I watched his whole career and confirmed it myself, despite not even considering it initially

He was actively campaigned in one of the best championship campaigns ever but this was because of the rate he was going at, not the fighters he faced. Once he got up to the top of the division he still was showing that he was levels above

But that was until discipline waned, focus splintered

One of the biggest names in boxing history has a name and legacy that is built off the residuals of a reputation that was built over cherrypicks - and in that sense he had earned a comic book superhero level aura

Edit: From 1986 to 1990, Tyson beat twelve of his fifteen top-ten ranked opponents according to Ring Magazine, most by early knockout. Names include Trevor Berbick, James Smith, Tony Tucker, and Michael Spinks.

Man this thread almost got 200 posts. I ain't think too much of it honestly. The fighters are going to feel how they feel. Fans will feel how they feel. Could argue in circles all day.

Would ya'll actually want to see a granddaddy boxing match between Roy vs Floyd?

I wanna see Mayweather every chance possible

The man is walking masterclass - Master Class Mayweather

Pretty Boy to Money Mayweather

Would be like if Air Jordan to Floor Jordan happened but Flood Jordan was hitting 3s like Steph Curry

Prime Mayweather was Pretty Boy, literally unreplicably gifted. Money Mayweather birthed the styles of Shakur Stevenson and Devin Haney and many others / Mayweather was better at his fallback style than these guys (in their prime) are when they try to replicate his sunset years

When I met Mayweather he told me to fukk off

Don’t you dare put Mike Tyson or Roy Jones in the same breath as Mayweather

It’s not even close. You’re talking all-time great versus top 50 - which is hall of fame status and highest esteem but not comparable to a top 10. Yes they’re great but their talents significantly outweighed their accomplishments in the sport

Roy Jones ranks over Mike Tyson

Prince Naseem ranks over some people as well

And is an all-time great

But if you mentioned amongst Mayweather, the discussion looks funny in the light

I'd watch it but that's not a fight I really want see get made. Two granddaddies going at it in the ring.

You comparing Floyd to Jordan then saying the bold is hilarious. Floyd did you like Jordan did Chamillionaire.
