Rick used to lace folks in the 80s then he crossed over and never came back.
Rick Rubin is overrated in hip hop convos. He's a legendary producer but hasn't been relevant to rap since the 80s IMO
There was a lot of dope producers in the 80's. I don't hear anyone giving bomb squad or anyone else as much props as Rick gets given that he has largely been in inactive in hip hop for a long time.Like it or not you can't really front on what Rick Rubin did with Run-DMC, LL and the Beastie Boys in the 80s.

How come nobody calls him washed or irrelevant?
I think he has a privilege of living off the past whereas Black people in the industry don't. Great producers that fell off because they were not "relevant" but guy you who hasn't made a hot beat in decades is on the Mount Rushmore list. shyt mad weird. Where's Easy Moe Bee and people like that? Let's be real.
That's the thing though 80s was the last time he was consistently involved with hip hop. But his records in that era were instrumental in hip hop music becoming as big as it did and still is
Don't wanna stan the man too hard but he legit changed the game and that rap-rock sound he invented was ahead of its time
That was invented by Larry Smith not Rick Rubin.
