Kane fathered Jay's style though.
A son is supposed to surpass the father. That type of progress is natural if the lessons are observed. At the same time Jay been in the background since Kane was doing it so instead of standing toe to toe he came back with another generation of rappers. You gotta give Kane that.

The age difference is basically nonexistent. It’s like a one year difference if that. And they was both rapping at the same time and running together. It’s just that Kane was superior in that time frame. Jay improved like crazy and blew past him tho but there’s no reason for all the disrespect.

Jay, admittedly, was always influenced by current trends. In the early 90’s, you had Fu, Treach, Bone, and Jaz O (arguably his biggest influence then) doing the fast rap style. Other rappers (Common, Das) incorporated it as well including Kane on a few tracks. I remember Guru taking shots at rappers like that during 92 on Flip the script.

Nas referencing Fu Schickens prolly made them bigger and funny thing is, it was mostly Chip Fu and not the whole crew.

rapping is the physically act of delivering the bars, Kane is incredible at that, better than Jay, he got a better delivery than jay got more swag than jay, he can do every flow jay can do, plus he got a better voice, so ain't no way jay can out rap him
now when you come to putting down thoughts, making songs, and shyt like that, yes Jay is way better, but that's not out rapping

Royce really meant Jay has way better lyrics than Kanye but that doesn't equal out rapping, Royce doesn't get that which is why he never rose to elite level in rap
