If he leaves, the organization is in a bad spot anyway, so why not maximize the chance they have? There’s only been 14 teams to make the finals without a past, present, or future mvp winner on the team since 1980, and most of them came during the dark ages of the eastern conference (1999-2005).

They can't let one person hold up the organization like they did the 1st time and be left with nothing. Especially with as dominant as the warriors are. If they can land a superstar that can put them close to the warriors then sure do it. But who is available that can even things out? They have to protect themselves this time around.

Cavaliers Rumors: Multiple Players Doubt They Can Fix Problems and Win NBA Title

Multiple Cleveland Cavaliers players are reportedly doubtful they will be able to work out their issues and win an NBA championship this season.

According to ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin, "several prominent players" told ESPN, Cleveland.com and The Athletic on the condition of anonymity that patience may not be enough to get the Cavs back to being title contenders.
