Kennedy has referred to Alzheimer's as "Type 3 Diabetes". Critics say this oversimplifies the complex disease and risks misinforming the public.

During a hearing, he denied there had been cuts to Alzheimer's clinical trials, but the Alzheimer's Association and others have noted that funding delays to research centers are affecting trials.
