The tweet you posted claims.
“per CMA 69% of users said they purchased a playstation for its exclusives”
Here is the study he’s using to draw that conclusion.
assets.publishing.service.gov.uk
The survey in question:
So off jump, the quote is misleading in that the survey isn’t even trying to provide info on “playstation users” as a whole.
Now a rational person would conclude that you can’t draw any real conclusions about playstation console buying habits based off a survey that only seeks out such a small specific subset of playstation users

…… But we can keep going.
Let’s plug the definition of “users” from the survey into the cac tweet quote.
“per CMA 69% of U.K. COD players said they purchased a playstation for its exclusives”
That completely changes the implications of the quote. You wouldn’t even have shared it, if it was written in the correct context of what “users” are in this study……but wait……we can take it further
The study doesn’t even claim 69% of users responded that they purchased a playstation console for exclusives.
The study claims 69% of the users WHO RESPONDED THAT INDIVIDUAL GAMES WERE A FACTOR IN THEIR BUYING DECISION.
So that’s a percentage, of a percentage, of a percentage of UK playstation users that responded that way.
So now that we have full context let’s plug that into the quote….
“per CMA 69% of U.K. COD players that said individual games influenced their purchase decision said they purchased a playstation for its exclusives”
Now that quote just doesn’t have the sony cult juice to it, which is why you cult members will remove the context and pretend you don’t understand how surveys/numbers work.
Now we could stop there, your cac tweet quote is obviously full of shyt…….but let’s really get into the numbers….
So let’s plug in the percentages from above.
88% of 1,397=1,229.
69% of 1,229=848…..
So ultimately 848 people out of 100+ million responded that they purchased a playstation to play exclusives
So….Your cult cac tweet tried to extrapolate the purchase decisions of 100+ million people based on the views of 848 survey responders
The ultimate irony of using that study to prove the importance of exclusives in purchasing decisions is that the CMA ultimately concluded that making the most popular playstation game exclusive to xbox would not cause enough users to change their purchasing habits to make “exclusivity” financially worthwhile for microsoft. It’s ultimately why the CMA approved the merger.
They concluded that “exclusives” don’t move the needle in a significant way……..
