they had a sitdown with MJ when they bumped into them at MTV about that one line in the song
:umad:

"we're NOT michael jackson and this is NOT Thriller!"

it was all good tho...mike said he appreciated the shoutout and the fact that MTV was allowing other blacks artists to get on MTV following the debut of dinner

but overall the album was a dope classic!

Am I the only 1 who thinks DMC > Run?

Looking back if u listen closely Dmc was better than Run but Run's swagger and energy on the mic always overshadowed Dmc

Yeah, I can see that. And when I watch movies like Tougher Than Leather and Krush Groove, I can tell that Run's swagger on the mic sometimes overshadowed DMC

that's how groups usually were .. 1 had better lyrics and 1 had better swag/personality .. the one with the swag was usually pressured/coerced into going solo

DMC was always lyrically better that RUN .. not light years better but better

I think Mobb Deep is the only group where the lyrics and swag is the same person (not to discredit H)

They were a bit before my time (I'm a 80's baby) but in the early 2000s is when I went back and start digging into their catalog more than just the singles I always heard my dad play.

Tougher Than Leather is my shyt! This song always get me hype, lol

Run-D.M.C. appreciation threads :blessed: :ahh: :salute:

They should have dropped this album back in '87 when they were supposed to. But their label was trying to play them when they were working on their movie and they had to put it on hold. By the time it came out, people were like :camby: and it didn't sell as much as Raising Hell even though it was a dope album.

I don't agree that DMC was way better than Run. He could be on some songs, but I always preferred Run's energy and confidence. DMC definitely had the better voice though, and his verse on "Down with the King" has me :damn: :wow: every time.
