Using Kaepernick's one lone year of starting to "debunk" the theory that running/scrambling QBs don't get hurt more frequently:skip:

That same article used Alex Smith, who got concussed because of his scrambling:skip::pachaha:

It all comes down to big hits. A pocket passer who holds the ball too long and can't get out of the way is far more injury prone (ie. Kevin Kolb) than a mobile QB who dives and doesn't take very many big hits (ie. Russell Wilson). EJ Manuel last night would have been fine if he was more aware.

My nikka Drew got injured running for a loose ball. That play changed the fortune of the New Orleans Saints. :blessed:

Having a scrambling QB as your starter probably leaves you more susceptible to having to play your backup but that's only if he's not smart and doesn't know how to slide or run his way out of bounds. Young (till his later years) thrived being a scrambler and didn't get injured every season like some of these QB's like Vick do. But on the real even if you have a pocket QB one wrong hit can take him out for the season.

It's not even about big hits. Sometimes those big hits doesn't necessarily equal injury. It's the awkward hits that will cause injuries.

No doubt pocket passers who do not have awareness and get hit constantly has a good chance to get hurt.

But the fact that scrambling and running QBs are treated as RBs beyond the LOS have a greater chance to get injured simply because a) they are not accustomed to taking hits thus they do not know how to protect themselves b) they do not have the same padding as RBs to absorb hits from LBs and DLs.

How many years did Peyton and Brady play before they got those injuries? How many years into his career did Vick get hurt? How about RG3? Or Rodgers before he started getting concussions scrambling around? Same with Ben and Romo?

The more you expose yourself the better chance of injury, that's for certain. But if it gives you the best chance of winning, that's what I want from my team. I would rather win a Superbowl and have a QB for 5 years than to have a pocket passer for 15 and not.

I love how dudes are mention pocket passers who had one injury their whole career basically.

Being injured once in your career is a very good thing. Most the names mentioned are guys who played 10 plus years

Meanwhile a primarily scrambling QB like Vick has rarely ever played a full season in his 10 year career.
