^^^
yep.
i'll let somebody else tell it cuz i didnt make the connection that rza and prince rakeem were the same person until '97.
i just remembered liking the song when i was real little. the goofy suaveness appealled to a young playa-in-training.
yet, i wasnt surprised when i made the connection via wutang's mtv rockumentary when they played clips of these videos. i really dont even remember genius' video in real-time.
That's why whenever someone tries to bring up such and such a rapper crossing over, I always point out those two songs that RZA and GZA made.
RZA & GZA were the first cats out of Wu to be signed, both as solo acts. RZA was on Tommy Boy & GZA was on Cold Chillin. both obviously didn't work out. Cold Chillin wasn't focused on GZA at all and Tommy Boy made RZA do Oooh We Love You Rakeem as an attempt at radio. both were dropped and/or released form their deals & soon after RZA started the idea for Wu.
i remember back in the day we were watching the Nowhere To Run video for Gravediggaz & i was telling one of my mates that it was RZA. i pointed out the eye & voice and a few things but he swore up & down it was someone else. i even found a source magazine later on & showed him RZA's face and he didn't recognise the eye and didn't believe me.
thats real talk right there.
wutang fans are avoiding this thread like the plague. any other time, they swarm around wutang threads like killer bees.
and this isnt even a negative thread. i thought those songs were hot.....but still.
i didnt know genius was signed to cold chillin.
I don't think wu fans are avoiding this thread on purpose, they just don't know the history and the thread title is too subtle ( should have mentioned rza in brackets). Words from the genius produced by easy mo bee was that joint.
