Congestion pricing is working so far. My coworker drives from westchester to downtown and usually its an hour 10 minutes and now its 45 minutes. I think most people would trade $9 for less time in traffic.
9 dollars a day breh?! 45 to 55 dollars a week? 180 to 220 a month? Just on a made up monkey shyt.com toll?!

And this is still a bad idea.

All these tweets about how empty streets doesnt equate to less consumerism dont get the simple fact that suppliers and wholesalers are not going to foot the bill. And business will neither. Which falls on who again?

Commuters, in and out of the city, are not only paying the toll they will also pay more for what are already high consumer goods and services. Plus the added tax for aforementioned price increase.

London and Stockholm already implemented congestion pricing with no significant increase in prices for goods and services.

Reduction in traffic will expedite travel times for delivery of goods. This decreases costs like fuel and labor driven by traffic delays

In the Silver Lining

This a 24/7 live stream of Times Square

You could see there’s generally less car traffic than usual…at any point in the day

I counted 10 cars at 8:23 pm ..in the middle of largest coty in the U.S. is crazy.. damn.

So is $9 a day or $9 everytime you enter below 60th street?

The 1st seems abhorrent but it's working to stop traffic.

The 2nd seems reasonable and still have intended effects.

in what you read, who absorbed the travel expense ? Did the supplier eat it? Or the business?

Someone has to raise price of their service ? And if so, what company or business here will do the same

Living in New York, this is a beautiful thing

People driving into the city for work is ridiculous, and if they don't want to work those jobs any more then they can go to people who actually live in the city.

People who were driving in to go shop at Bloomingdales will not be deterred by the increase

@StreetsblogNYC
Is congestion pricing working? Well, this stretch on Clinton Street in Brooklyn is usually filled with traffic in the morning rush. But not today.

2/21
@CNU_NYC
The view from CNU NYC HQ. Brooklyn Bridge traffic is definitely down, the intersection of Broadway and Chambers is not clogged and the sound of emergency vehicle sirens is blessedly gone.

Holy shyt 😳

@miriam_riviera
Gentrifiers in their natural habitat of cobble hill and Caroll gardens . You priced the original residents out of existence. The ones that are left are being Yellowstoned with permits and regulations to sell. When are you gonna realize that you’re a bunch of scumbags?

5/21
@senorfuego90
My experience heading southbound on Nostrand Ave has been quite the opposite on my morning commute.

6/21
@fuelgrannie
where’s your tracker of how much money the city is capturing from congestion pricing?

thought you guys would be running data on that

7/21
@nyjerrykane
Less people in Manhattan. Glad I don’t operate a coffee cart.

8/21
@neipate96
it’s outside the congestion pricing zone , did clinton street get filled with manhattan bound traffic

9/21
@ThunderGawdKen
StreetsBlog is to gentrifiers and transplants what FoxNews is to Right Wingers.

10/21
@GreenLeapFwd
Nice door zone bike lane 🙄

11/21
@eyes_west
Anyone have the data on daily sales tax remittances?

12/21
@StreetwallNY
Early indications seem super positive. I suggest that SB try an unscientific poll of talking to 100 cabbie and uber drivers and see what the take is. I'll best most are noticing big improvements.

13/21
@domenickpal
Now show above 61st.

14/21
@MonarchWolf
You could call it a “smart pick”

15/21
@rickytwalsh
Since it isn’t in Brooklyn yet, I would say no

16/21
@HonusWagne10387
Lots of parking and biking and people walking.

17/21
@StefanMcGrath
My old neighborhood! Clinton has been choked with Manhattan bound traffic for as long as I lived there. Constant stop and start traffic, standstill jams, angry honking for years. This is transformative.

18/21
@veloceroo
That bus is still crazy close.

19/21
@BoweryJoe
How about prohibiting automobile ownership for Manhattan residents? That will make for more parking spaces.

20/21
@peterkanak
Must also offset the $9.00 per car with the tax $$ you lose from parking garages in NYC
And income tax delta from what the parking garages reports as income

21/21
@CommonNotMiddle
I’d say we have to wait till after the King day holiday when all the workforce and all the schools are fully reopened post holidays .

@JimRockaway
This morning around 10am I decided to see how congestion pricing affected local bus Q32 that runs from Jax Hts to city. (At a time I would never imagine taking it w/o CP.) Bus very popular w/seniors who avoid stairs & subway.

Verdict: noticeably FASTER traffic toward Manhattan

@spiv
It was snowing today genius.

3/43
@2thegreat166318
Speeds into Manhattan are improved. Speeds within the congestion zone are unchanged.

4/43
@QuietOurStreets
Come on, traffic didn’t vanish overnight!

5/43
@lenal7272
ohh I used to take the q32 to high school from Jackson Heights ❤️❤️❤️..be safe

6/43
@BatesDeedr87015
Yep still hard to see how this will work. Started on weekend and snow today

7/43
@steppenwulfnyc
My favorite data point in this argument. If fewer people go to MAnhattan after this, this congestion tax is an abject failure. It’s meant to move people to public transit, which is in dire straits and can’t take the volume. The much likelier outcome is people don’t go to NYC.

8/43
@_ROTE_
Looks like a bottleneck going towards Skillman/Van Dam.

9/43
@EamonCarey3
The bus doesn’t have any more passengers than usual. Just means people are avoiding going to work in Manhattan. Guess what the knock on effect of that will be to the city economy.

10/43
@Gsaintvil
To queens bridge project

11/43
@A_Sue_growsinBK
Reminds me of my Brooklyn days—buses are so important for folks with mobility issues who have difficulty with stairs, etc. Bus service covers areas of Brooklyn with no subway stops

A snow day in a bus only lane, huh....yeah totally working.

The opposite lane tells the real story.

16/43
@DylhanFlores
It is winter come back in July and let us know

17/43
@moddem1390
Here’s my first thought - where’s the data BEFORE CP was implemented…

18/43
@MadAnnMarie
Is there an specific bus lane?

19/43
@PhilSustainable

[Quoted tweet]
NYC bus 🚌 riders have been paying a massive hidden cost long before congestion pricing. We ignore them. Let’s break down how much time—and money—they lose every year due to slow car traffic. We’ll ignore health costs (asthma) and the lost time for car drivers.

20/43
@tweet733
Yesterday in general was less traffic. Let’s see what next week looks like.

21/43
@SAFAmusic
no one worked yesterday.

22/43
@NYCDailyCommute
🤣 it was snowing then. Think that had an impact on number of drivers?

23/43
@Anique61
Can you show us what it looks like at 8:00am?

24/43
@emailpt8888
Right, snowing and you’re beating the 10am rush hour

25/43
@BadTakeEnjoyer
Thank goodness the free bridge is no more. Queens Blvd also seems much better.

26/43
@bmu594760333
Transplants love it

27/43
@RealJorgeVargas
But the bus looks empty so I don’t think congestion pricing is doing it. Maybe it’s because it was going to snow so folks stayed home.

Just a thought.

Now try your little stunt at 2 am.

28/43
@fortzon

Ummmm pretty sure that’s a bus only lane genius.

@Brandon12189031
It's a snow day...all the streets in the city are empty

Stop promoting government overreach. I’m sure there’d be no traffic at all if no one was allowed to drive. Would you like that?
