That was a serious miscalculation on their part.
Trump wants all the attention. If he had banned all media but fox and breibart from the White House, he would not have been able to stand it. Then the media would have been in a good position to negoatiate terms of engagement.

People keep operating out of fear instead of standing up to his bully tactics.

The press usually stands in solidarity when the White House tries to restrict access anyway. They did it with Obama. American media dropped the ball.
