a theory(far out but still) is that some cephalopods are an offshoot off extra terrestrial life that was not native to earth but adapted and evolved by cross breeding with terrestrial cephalopods. The differences in size,ecolocations and shape is really interesting. They are highly intelligent,seem to be able to reflect on actions,strategic engagement is natural behaviour and they seem to be able to mimick behaviour specific to other life forms to appear less threathening.
