Patriots Cut Player After Diabetes Diagnosis

The NFL is a notoriously ruthless business for players. But no matter how immune we grow to that harsh reality, there is always the occasional story that serves as a reminder of how quickly and mercilessly a player's fortunes can change. This is one of those stories.

The Patriots waived defensive tackle Kyle Love on Wednesday, a couple weeks after learning he'd been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. New England cited a non-football injury/illness (NFI), as the reason for the move.

Love, who just completed his third season in the NFL, all with New England, was offered the opportunity to either retire for one season or be waived, according to his agent, Richard Kopelman of Klass Sports.

i think they saw something else in younger guys the brought in....its most likely a performance issue i'd say maybe Love let himself go

and besides having type 2 Diabetes(the worst kind there is) is a death sentence he will be done for within the next couple years they cant afford to keep dead weight like that around

its the NFL. business never personal. although its a bit weird that theyd consider type 2 diabetes detrimental.

The signing of Armstead and Kelly also likely factored into the decision to let Love go.

It's better for the Pats to cut Love now, so he can catch on with a team before OTAs start. Then wait till TC and cut him, which would really screw Love over.

Also the Pats drafted Marcus Cannon two years ago who was diagnosed with cancer at the combine. Armstead who they just signed had a heart attack at USC, and the Pats managed matt lights crohn's disease for a decade. It's not like the Pats get rid of players just b/c of diseases.

Either way I like Love, hope it works out with the Jags for him.
