Right message, by maybe wrong messenger. After all, one of his signature moves was throwing his opponent a chair, them standing with the the chair in front of their face, and then him throwing a jumping spin kick at said chair.
Yep. It got to the point where I would pop for when it got reversed. Someone duckin the kick and hitting him with the chair had me:

When done right it worked though and he could pull it off in a couple of different situations.
What RVD was getting at is don't make it look so obvious with the set-up

Would this be considered kayfabe? Feels like it’ll be under ring psychology.

I mean, the Irish whip makes no damn sense, and waiting to take a dive from the outside or high spot from the turnbuckle is the same. A lot of this shyt is :skip:

They don't understand ring psychology or selling either.
I've been back into wrestling for a few months after a 20 year absence and I've noticed that nobody sells anything:russ:

What I don't understand is how these nikkas don't realize all the GOATs were amazing sellers

Rock, Benoit, Austin(very underrated seller), Michaels etc sold as well as they worked

I'm a big RVD fan, but I mean, if we're being honest he's one of the architects of the unrealistic Flippy style .. Now, no way am I saying he's as phony as the stuff today but he kind of got the ball rolling

No he did not. That credit goes to that jackass shawn michaels. Yall think a bunch of kicks is flips. You werent waiting 30 seconds while looking directly at RVD to throw the chair. He threw the chair and kicked u right as u grabbed it. Rolling thunder wasnt no crazy flippy shyt either. It was one damn roll on the ground into a splash.

Lack of kyfabe is primarily on Vince/HHH and the execs of wrestling

Like as much as I like the pressers after ppvs, I didn't like for example after WM, HHH said there's still more to tell to the Bloodline story. And Roman echoed the same thing.

I want to see pressers with guys remaining at least partially in character.

I hear ppl say Roman's matches are boring when; if you watch his facial expressions, listen to his shyt talk

Dude made a PPV Main Event with Logan fukking Paul and made magic through selling, telling a story in the ring, and making you feel like he was afraid to lose

Some of those are the same people who claim that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a boring fighter. Roman (in his Tribal Chief character) doesn't do a bunch of flips & dives in his matches, but he ALWAYS tells a compelling story.
Another thing that Roman does very well is making his title challengers look like credible threats (and not just by letting them kick out of a thousand finishers, either). Guys like Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Logan Paul, and Daniel Bryan all looked like killers when they faced Roman. There's an art to making even a "weak on paper" opponent look like they belong in the main event while still looking like they're not quite on the champion's level.
Guys like Roman, Lashley, Gunther, FTR, Bryan Danielson, and a few others know how to tell a fantastic old-school in-ring story while still incorporating the theatrics of modern wrestling.
