that would have worked too.

Smoke and Mary already being inside the juke joint and then running out and only being able to return once Grace welcomes them back in had me like :what: .

The middle act should’ve focused on the vampires plotting how to get into the juke joint, while Stack figuring out how to keep them out. Mary and Smoke could’ve added tension by being able to speed-blitz inside at any time since they’d already been welcomed in. That dynamic alone could’ve created a lot of suspense.

The final act should’ve ended with the juke joint burning down, forcing everyone to flee into the woods. From there, it should’ve turned into a survival horror— everyone getting picked off one by one until sunrise.

Instead of being so heavily inspired From Dusk Till Dawn, the film should have drew inspiration from The Strangers and/or Jeepers Creepers 2. That kind of shift would’ve taken the movie to another level.

I don’t know if it’s because he wants all the credit or all the money from the script, but he really needs to start delegating some of the writing to other people. The middle of script could have and honestly should been much better.

Delta, stack and smoke arcs and the blues scenes were chefs kiss though
that seems kinda messy though

Just came back from watching this movie.....

The initial pacing of the story was dope. There was a lot of meat and depth to all the characters back stories that were explored. ⏸️

The car scene with Delroy Lindo while the echoing torment of the story being heard in the background was a nice touch.

The cast was great. The wide angle camera shots were dope. Gorranson's music score was very fitting. It reminded me of a folklore version of "explosions in the sky" telling the story partially through the music. The backdrop to the cotton fields were cool.

I liked the deep exploration to the concept of sin throughout the entire movie.

There was one particular scene which I nearly deducted points because it was unreal but it needed to happen in order for the "hate" to explain a deeper meaning to their motives. If I was writing it, I wouldn't have spaced it out too much like a Tyler Perry show but consolidated it to where they didn't have the fụcking doors wide open communicating with them that long. Grace was bugging and mad retarded in that scene lol.

I deducted points in the 3rd act because Gorransons music was weird and mad off in that one particular ending scene plus timing was too coincidental but the post credits was a chef's kiss 🤌🏽 that gave it the proper ending.

I liked that Annie was from Louisiana (not Mississippi) and practiced hoodoo (knew right off the rip from the accent before it was mentioned). I also liked how Mississippi was connected to Chicago because that is real. My wife is from Chicago and has roots in Mississippi plus family out there.

Overall, somewhere between 8.9 to 9.1/10

I haven't seen anything as spiritually connected to a message since book of Clarence and also the concept of the devil was dope.

Coogler redeemed himself with this one i guess. MBJ acted his ass off. Great job. This is my unbiased review. I came in with very low expectations.

Also, Tariq Nasheed was right. I feel like a lot of people would've went with the Democratic approach and became a vampire rather than having their own opinion or using religion as a comfort spot like Sammies father when that too can be used against you hence the vampires.

Also, sin is inevitable especially when married hoes were entering the juke to get their sweaty pụssy ate out or cheating on their mates to fụck old flings. You just have to manage it and use it like a weapon for protection. The twins (Elijah & Elias) were possibly the concept of yin and yang for the balance of sin.... their father.

Wait a minute… so this movie glorifies Voodoo and promotes African Spirituality?

Haven’t seen it yet, but I figured it was a vampire movie like Dusk Til Dawn

Maybe this has been discussed already, I dunno

I mean.... it's a horror movie.

That's mad retarded to use religion as criticism......for a horror movie.

That's like being a white supremacist and watching Malcolm X to criticize it.

But also....my concept of real Christianity is different and mirrors some of the constructs of why the devil can quote the Bible right back to you with ease.... especially if you ignore it's fundamental African roots before we called it Africa.

My opinion: Great film. Would it be an all-time favorite of mine? No. I saw it IMAX but I left feeling that I didn’t need to see it in IMAX. I had somewhere to be so I couldnt catch the second post credits scene. The big music scene that showed how blues is the root of so much contemporary music and where it started from back in Africa was my least favorite part of the movie. It was nice but I could have did without.
Quite the opposite for me. I read the spoilers and initially thought I was gonna hate it but that shıt gave me chills as they were channeling the spirit of their ancestors and predecessors to keep them distracted in the bliss of music and sin from the discomfort of their current climate that even emulates the pain, hostility and discrimination that we still feel in today's economy.

Whether it be hip hop, drums and chants, piano, guitar, we express that pain through music and them cacs were outside looking at that as a way to weaponize it as part of their barbaric nature pretending to feel our sympathy.....

All we had to do was let them in....

Meanwhile that cac music they were playing outside was bland and without season.

Man, I really tried to shıt on this but it was hard and I'd be lying to myself plus I'm an music head so I loved the juxtaposition element of it in how it was incorporated perfectly.

The moment Grace hesitated while ole boy was getting eaten and her man was looking passed it telling her to get to the car, i would've kicked that funky bítch out....
kick-get-out.gif

Waited til sunrise and dipped off before the klan came. End of movie. Bıtch could've got her daughter in the morning and skipped town. That would've been a plot hole if the vampires didn't try to convince them that they should all be vampires and take out the KKK while they at it.
