Pretty good movie. 8/10 for me.

The vampire metaphors for selling out and cultural homogenization were well done, as well as the "wages of sin is death" thing.

Loved the anachronism of the blues scene and how African and Asian music influenced the modern. There were standard horror movie cliches and bizarre rule breaking like having to be let back in after already being inside. I was really hoping Buddy Guy would be able to use his "magic music" to bring the brother and others lost back for Stack at the end. Kind of felt wasted given the vampire wanted him for that ability.

The final killing scene while fun was a little ridiculous and felt tacked on. I guess they had to find a way to kill the hero with a bang

Delroy Lindo and the new kid were awesome.

My wife was with me, and is an identical twin. She wishes MBJ had differentiated the brothers more. I agree. My wife and her sister are drastically different from one another.
As far as the last one goes, that's a matter of perspective.

I know more identical twins who are more alike than different, even at older ages. But I also know identical twins that are very different.

Coogler talked about the identical twins he consulted through this process in his interviews, and specifically in the breakfast club interview he said he had referenced family members who were twins and friends who were twins. He had MBJ talking to identical twins about the psychology of it and helping him with the characterization.

I don't think there's one way to make everyone happy in that regard.

7 out of 10. (I really wanna knock it down to a 6 because of the fukkin fact the tension lead to a trash plot like this)

Storytelling was wonderful but nikka a vampire flick was not something i wanted to see. All them griot stories and this is what came of it?

i'm the opposite. loved the world building
I’d have to disagree. That was not world-building…that was just roundabout typical period story telling with too slow of a pace. The actual movie really started about an hour in. What’s world building about two ex soldiers back from Chicago opening a juke joint and gathering old friends to play music? That plot has been done many times.

allegory ...

it's why this film is not really about vampires.

it's why people still talk about the wizard of oz 100 years later.

it's why breh rabbit is not just about a rabbit 'breh'.

Movie was dope. Full stop. My folks from the Sip, Natchez, Port Gibson and Vicksburg. They nailed the accent and the mannerisms of that era these boys sounded like my grand dad and my uncles.

The first half of this film during the daytime was magical, I felt so much black love coming off the screen, anybody saying Coogler didn't do his research on that region don't know what the fukk they talm bout know what im talmbout?

I got a lot to say about this film but the mid or post credit scene is the only thing I think they could have left on the cutting room floor. It was already a powerful ending and I don't agree that Smoke would have spared his undead brother that plot twist actually lessens the impact of his sacrifice to me. Whatever tho I get the idea to leave the door open for a sequel. 9/10

One of the best and most subtle thing that i loved about this film was that their was a sense of a community and the racism only came from the vampires. Even the nikkas that he shot was like “oh we aint know this was your truck” and he still paid to get them patched up it was just a hard lesson. Everybody knew each other and even if they didnt it was still some heart of we family like when he taught the young girl how to negotiate watching the truck. In the Juke everybody had an idea of who was who they even said Hailee was family when the vampires asked why she get to party. Its deep cause if they dont let them in it would just be a shoot out with the clan in the morning.

Thats why the 1st half of the movie makes this a 10/10 movie because it shows us what we were before outside interference from cacs

I just saw this.
1.5 hours until a glimpse of the premise of the movie ain’t it. The setup was entirely too long. I don’t need any juke joint full musicals, Irish hymns with river dancing, full folk songs and all that shyt. Just give me a concise, direct vampire movie with a different and interesting premise like I thought this movie had. Something tight and to the point like Get Out. The only thing that kept me there was the outstanding performance by Mike B. However the part starting from when the evil cac took the kkk crakas until the end was excellent. I’m glad yall enjoyed the layers to this movie, but sadly a one time watch for me. Even had a couple of folks walk out in my theater.
