The film studios probably thought the film would flop... they already have negative viewpoints with black led films and actors... How is that our problem that's on them and their stupidity and ingrown racism... white doesnt always make right...

America has close to 40 million Black people, that is a massive market..
You dont actually need the remaining 290 million to see a sizeable return as a Black film maker.
The idea that unless youre mainstream you'll starve is totally false and that thinking killed Black film making and music over the last 30 years by everyone now buck dancing and trying to appeal to and appease White audiences..

Every big movie is getting cam ripped within a day or two. A smartphone can probably do the job and have it uploaded right after the credits roll.
I don't like Coogler but it's a black action horror film so I have to see it.

He'll be dead, but will his kids/family? He can put the rights for the film in a trust fund and have his people eating off of the profits forever, literally.

The negotiation scene with the girl Smoke hires to watch his truck hits different knowing about this deal now
Just reading some of the reception for the film and criticism is interesting. It's also kind of prophetic how the movie speaks on how everything black people build in this country is built on a lie. There's a glass ceiling no matter who it is. There's always contrarians who will hate on any measure of success one carves out of the systemic racist culture this country was founded on.
