Ryan Coogler's Sinners is currently having one of the craziest 2nd weekend box office total in film history (Brehs could contribute if they go see it)

Do y'all realize how good "Word of Mouth" is spreading for this to happen? A drop like that is litterally unheard of for a R-rated film or any film for that matter

even PG or PG 13 films have way bigger drops the 2nd week. Also this is a Hard Rated R film with violence, profanity and sex. What's funny is some Hollywood Magazine tried to hate on the Box Office last week even Ben Stiller said something about it. Now it's one pace to be one of the Biggest R-Rated films in US History.

This is the reason for the success and it's a genius move:

If you saw it on a regular screen, someone's going to tell you to see it in IMAX. You saw it on IMAX someone's going to tell you to see it in ScreenX. You saw it on ScreenX someone's going to tell you to see it in...you get the point.

He made a movie where the experience changes depending on the theater so anyone who enjoyed the movie will be motivated to see it again elsewhere. The budget is under $100 million so that's another smart move and the release date kept them from competing with any big movies. Hopefully it has legs and hits the break even point in the next few weeks.

Yes "Avatar" was monster but let me be more specific to my point. The qualifier is 40+ Million Opening weekends and less than 10% drop non-holiday 2nd weekend. "Avatar" 2nd weekend was Christmas Holiday. If "Sinners" hold is under 10%, and it makes over 40 million again, yes that would be rare for a non-holiday 2nd weekend. There's been 4 films that had single digit drops 2nd weekend that made over 40 Million their opening weekend.

As you posted, "Avatar" was one, "How the Grind Stole Christmas", "Meet the Fockers" and "Twisters" were the others. Only "Twisters" 2nd weekend wasn't a holiday (I saw this in 96) and it made less than 40 Million it's 2nd weekend. Avatar- Christmas, Grinch - Thanksgiving, Fockers - New Years. All had holiday boost, Now "Sinners" did open on Easter but that's not considered a huge box office holiday like the others had on their 2nd weekends. 'Shrek" does have the record as it increased it's 2nd weekend but that was a Memorial Day Holiday. Again we have to see what the final numbers are when estimates are released.

Talked about it a few nights ago with the bartender and this other woman while waiting on my date. Both white women and they absolutely LOVED the movie. Word of mouth done made this movie spread like wildfire
