damn dude would have had a nice long nfl career as well sucks for him

hopefully sumlin or kingsbury can hook him up with a assistant gig or something.

honestly if i was playing college football and i was like a stud no homo sophmore who never redshirted, id just take my junior season as a redshirt and get the hell out of there
The question is, if they knew your intentions to do such...would they even grant you a scholarship to sit on campus for an entire year to do nothing?

These dudes been playing football since they were 10. I'm pretty sure they know you can get injuries from playing. I don't care how invincible they think they are. If they don't know that then there's something wrong with them.
Same with NFL players.

People like you who seemingly have never played the sport nor knows anyone who plays the sport shouldnt comment on these things. They dont know how dangerous football can be to their LONGTERM health. It isnt mentioned AT ALL. ANd the pressures from your fam, friends, coaches, teammates to play and practice through anything is IMMENSE. I remember one time during football practice in high school, I complained having a headache during these one tackling drills. I stood to the side to just regather myself and I had coached and teammates just looking at me like I was a bytch or something, then one of the captains finally said something to me and he gave me the :childplease: my head hurt too, coerced me to reenter the drills (nothing was wrong with me thankfully).

Nobody that age knows there's longeterm detriments to what they're doing. And for some ppl football is their only out.

interesting but could they stop you

i know some poster on here mentioned that like jadeovan clowney should just redshirt this year, and im starting to agree, why the hell risk it when you are guranteed to be a top 5 anyways.

but as far as the redshirting goes, why should South Carolina even grant him one...if they know he has no intentions to even play that season? would he be able to afford a years worth of tuition there?

This could potentially backfire on him, and he could lose out on millions trying to play it safe...especially if somebody (or somebodies) have a big enough season...too many variables to bank on getting picked in the top 5, especially in a sport like football.

We've already seen players draft stocks fall because they stayed one year too long, what's to say it wont happen to a player that simply sat out a year waiting to be eligible for the draft? it's somewhat uncharted territory.

i get that it's a business, and that the end game is to maximize your earning potential....IMO there is no "safe" play doing this.
