You have obviously never played the game to have said a comment like this. The pressures and the tactics grown men use on these kids to get them to play through injuries is absolutely shameful. I myself have seen it first hand. shyt like this pisses me off. Scholarships are year to year they threaten to take it away. Then they manipulate them to feel like they let everyone around them down. You don't know the disgusting aspects of this sport in a college level. So you should probably not speak on it.

1st just to get it off my chest...I hate when people say scholarships are year to year like its uncommon. Every scholarship is basically year to year. Academics one too.

And 2nd again why are these guys never held accountable for themselves. It's always blame everyone around but the player has no say in what he wants to do. If he was falsely cleared and went out there that's one thing but if he's rightfully cleared and just keeps getting knocked the fukk out then at what point does a player say enough is enough I don't want to do this anymore.
If I remember correctly there was a kid at Texas last year who said my brain is more important than this shyt and he got the fukk out. He took personal responsibility for himself and said it wasn't worth it.
That's all I say is that these guys should take responsibility for themselves 1st and foremost.

You can't go retrofit a lawsuit because you chose to do a bunch of things and they ended up not turning out how you expected.

There should be balance, but with most of these ultra-competitive guys, it will probably be the doctor who has to keep them out. No doubt that RGIII stayed in too long because he wanted it.

I watched most of A&M's last season after they took Sumlin away from us at U of H. Swope was consistently willing to take the hits, even though he knew he was going to be folded up like a Chinese fan by at least 2 or 3 guys. He was an all-out kind of blocker, too. Just a fierce competitor all around, which was his trouble.

As fast as he was, if he could have stayed healthy, he would have been a steal at round 6.

they might as well go ahead and pay players now
They should have been getting compensated in one way or another. The NCAA was making BANK off these kids and not giving them shyt.

Individual universities eat with the name recognition
The NCAA as a whole eats
Champs, dikks, Foot Locker, and other stores that carry college gear eats
EA Sports eats
ESPN, ABC, NBC, FOX, and other tv and radio stations eat
Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, Dominos, and other corporations sign deals and when the universities are doing well...EAT

And the students get a "free ride" to college...right. Like that is equal compensation for the BILLIONS these MAJOR corporations make is INSANE.

I'm not blaming the players for getting injured its part of the game. Which is why I get mad anytime the idea of suing for injuries is brought up. I just like for them to personally hold themselves responsible because they know the possible consequences when they sign up don't comeback later when things don't go your way and try to sue. (Not talking about swope personally because he hasn't sued yet if he will at all. )

Theres evidence that the NFL had knowledge of the damage that concussions do to the brain dating back to the 1970s, obviously information withheld from the players and public. Personal accountability falls on league officials too ya know? Texas A&M had a responsibility to keep someone like Ryan Swope off the field too, but given they were having one of the highest profile seasons in school history, it wouldnt benefit Kevin Sumlin much to bench one of his best players for his own safety, huh?

Show me individual evidence that they did. And I said that if they knowingly did so than they should be accountable. But if he's cleared and goes out the next week and gets another the one then how is the school or whoever at fault.
As long as he rightfully cleared its on him if he decides to keep getting his head rung.

Who kept clearing him to play though? The Texas A&M doctors? The ones who's employers has a direct interest in its star players staying on the field?

Its the same reason you had lawsuits for asbestos, black lung, pharmaceuticals, etc.....A lot of businesses had their employees\customers under the impression that their work environment\product was less harmful than it actually was...

I don't know if the NFL had hard data about potential brain damage from playing the sport, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did and purposely kept it undisclosed.

You can't compare the dangers that happen in a collision sport to sitting in an office with abspetos. They're two totally different scenarios. One of them is a physical risk by nature while the other isn't.

Where do the ethics of the medical staff come into play? they're the ones who kept clearing him to play... he wasn't conducting his own post-concussion tests and clearing himself.

As I've said multiple times if he is rightfully cleared week 2 then goes out week 3 and gets knocked it's on him.
But if they falsely clear someone then they should lose their license and be sued and whatnot.
