His promo skills have been top notch which I think also surprised them
Plus at the end of the day money talks and when AJ debuted his merchandise was selling like hot cakes

I wouldn't say most guys, but guys who get good screen time do well with endorsements and merch sales. Randy Orton's financials during his divorce were an eye-opener, for sure.

It's more beneficial when you're prominently featured and selling a lot of merch. He was sliding way off the screen and down the ranks (which would affect any back end he would receive).
