If he was really trying to look out for the Coli what he should be telling folks is to not mess with savings accounts in physical banks anyway because the interest rates are trash and you shouldnt even need a physical branch for your savings account since you should be saving. Online banks are much better for savings accounts.

most people don't save, or use it as a 2nd checking account, and thus, bankers get more money to get people to open a savings account.

Because they usually charge you fees once you pass up a certain amount of ACH transfers, ATM and Bank withdrawals, etc. While checking accounts don't have those fees.

But if you're using it for its intended purpose it's free. If u taking money out of it enough to get charged then u need to be using a checking account

My friend got a joint account with his now wife before they got married. He is an investment banker and she was still in school making no money basically. I thought a move like that could waited until after the actual wedding happened. Engagements get broken everyday b.

If you are going to do a joint its best to make it an expense account.

I dont have a joint account with my wife. I just have access to her account. Whats hers is mine and whats mine is mine.

I'm a financial nut. Wife and I have a joint account. We also have personal accounts and get $150 per week allowances. Every bill is automatically drafted on the 1st. $1000 goes into misc savings for vacations, home/auto repairs etc. $600 goes to our roth retirement accounts. We have the standard $10k emergency fund tucked away at a credit union. IMO this is the best way to maximize wealth as a couple. We're both on pace to be millionaires in 30 yrs or less.
We both have cracked phone screens with no plans to replace. Pretty sure if I had access to $500+ per week I would be tempted to spend more, same with her. Her allowance typically evaporates in 2-3 days.

We live very comfortable making less than $90k.
