If you had asked me this question years ago I would have said corner no doubt, but safety takes a lot more skill than I think they get credit for. Safeties are like tight ends in the sense where they have to be as good in covering as corners and nowadays they need to be strong enough to take down 6'2 190-220 lb wide receivers or runningbacks that if they made it this far up the field essentially have a head full of steam, they also need to not only what the opposing offense if doing but they need to have synergy with the cornerbacks and linebackers to either play run or pass support, acting as the last line of defense.
Best Cornerback is prime Darell Revis
Best Safety is Ronnie Lott

Prime covered Rice in GOAT vs GOAT matchups and was able to slow him down which no one else could do, Revis pulled a hamstring tryna keep up wit Moss and got exposed on a number of occasions by lesser receivers.
Kids these days
When Prime covered Rice he held him to significantly lower numbers, from 91-93 Rice went 6-44 0TDs 4-45 1TD and 6-105 0TDs in the 3 matchups where Prime was singled on him.
