Saigon was the perfect balance between gangster and conscious. And was a great lyricist that could make great songs and keep it funny and entertaining too. He was a rare one.

His gangsta rap material is average at best
What he's good at is The Invitation, Enemies, Friends type shyt
Great lyricist? Dude had passable raps over Just Blaze production, he's not lyrical like that, that's more Joell Ortiz's lane
Great songs? He has a couple on GSNT, that's about it
That song on his album that tried to be funny was lame (one of those two super wack sex songs), also I remember some wack song "For Some p*ssy" that was supposed to be funny but was trash
There was about 10 Saigons in his era, Papoose being one of them
If Saigon didn't have GSNT I'd say Papoose is better than him

I do remember one mixtape track being fire (it was on Entourage I think)
But that was an Alchemist track
Saigon is a product of production imo

Was GSNT2 any good? No right? What changed? Just Blaze wasn't around to shoot down wack records

Juelz Santana (underrated as a spitter and has hot songs, no Saigon music is touching the best of Dipset or even solo Juelz)
French Montana (has about 3 times the good music that Saigon has despite not being a good rapper in a traditional sense)
Fabolous (hits on hits and good mixtape music)

50 started in 1998. He was already known by then. But if you want to count him, yes Saigon is better as a MC, 50 makes equally good songs though. They're about a tie
Yes he's way better than Banks, tho Banks is a great lyricist, he doesn't have the catalog of songs as Saigon
He's waaaaay better than Juelz

Yes he's better than Fabolous though lyrically Fab was sick
Papoose can rhyme sometimes, sometimes he's corny, but his song making ability is complete trash. Not even in the same ballpark

Skyzoo's the only rapper with just lyrics and not a mix of that and content (I never know what he's talking about) and voice/charisma/flow change ups (which he's pretty weak in)

Also the track you posted the lyrics from only proves my point, he's only interesting on the basis of content (the conscious jail mentality raps) and his lyricism is average

I'm not saying average for now with all this southern shyt everywhere, I mean for his era where everyone was at least as good as him or better (that list of NY rappers I posted)
