The market is driven by demand. Businesses sell what people want, especially in music. Whenever an artist sells well, labels try to find someone who looks/sounds the same, or try to buy more records from the producer. That's how the guy who did Party In The USA dominated the sound of pop for a few years, making hit records for Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry.

50 Cent sold millions of records in the 00s because that's the look and sound kids and chicks wanted, not because Interscope wanted to peddle negativity to blacks. The majority of people who buy rap music are white.

Kendrick and some others have shown that being conscious can sell, but he'll never be as "big" as Drake who makes the type of music more people want to listen to. People listen to music to dance or party.

the truth is some of us (black folks) have evolved into white people. And yes, jay had no intentions of releasing an album. He has a pedigree of being flaky.
