Saigon answers Q&A about his new video “Not Like Them”
Q: We see your new video with Styles P all over the place, whose Idea was it to recreate the Black Panther Party Movement?
Saigon: It was my idea but SP was definitely with it.. We been cool for a second and we both think alike and have some similar outlooks on whats needed in today’s society, so I called and told him my idea and he was all for it. Too many videos look exactly the same…some strippers, vixens, a money bag and a fancy car and that’s 98% of the videos out. Wanted to switch it up as I always try to.
Q: Any reason you picked 9/11 to put out such a politically motivated clip?
Saigon: Absolutely, Everybody is so patriotic today because of the tragedy of 9/11 but we forget the tragedies America has committed against us as people. There wouldn’t have been a need for a black panther party if America was all right and just like they claim to be.. What’s the date that we remember our fallen soldiers who died for our people to try to obtain freedom? Where is the memorial for all the people who were lynched or unjustly convicted of a crime because of their skin color? I just wanted to use an American memorial to remember some of the forgotten American people who fought to make this country what it is today. They deserve to be remembered as well, so I did it.
Q: I noticed U ripped an American Flag at the end of the video.. Was that some sort of political statement?
Saigon: (Laughs) No, the flag was already old and ripped. It was just something I thought would look cool .. I don’t hate America, I love America, I just hate some of their policies and politics.
Q: When is your new album due?
Saigon: November 6th….. Election Day. That was also calculated.. I’m running for Change in Hip Hop the same way Obama did.. I think we all agree its time for Hip Hop to GROW… And with growth usually comes change for the better. Its the most important album in Hip Hop right now. A lot of truth on it a lot of people are going to be afraid to swallow.. Its like Greatest Story Never Told with no cut. I really wanted to make a statement and I think I did. Pretty sure of it!
