i dont think some of you know what " open the floodgates" mean because im seeing shows listed that are still niche today in the west

No it wasn’t, Ronin Warriors, Teknoman, & Dragon Ball were all in broadcast on network TV, and those shows you mentioned were in still in NETWORK syndication. Never mind the fact Sci-Fi was broadcasting anime as well (can’t wait for your, 8 Man saved Super Sentai vid) Blockbuster and Suncoast Video was still king so you could easily access anime through there too.

Then it can be argued Street Fighter the movie had the larger impact then SM due to the fact SF dropped first and the majority of girls did not watch SM in the mid 90s.

dragon ball was syndicated too, and we only got the first 13 episodes here

Ronin warriors, tekkaman blade, samurai pizza cats, dragonball, etc.

All those deep cut anime shows that came on dumb early in the mornings on weeekends you were lucky to catch. Then Sci Fi channel Saturday morning had the little movie block in the afternoon :wow:

We had anime in the 80’s but it was watered down stuff, the west didn’t start getting really good dubbed anime until Toonami. Stuff like Trigun, Outlaw Star, Gundam, etc. used to be shyt you could only get in speciality shops, subbed.

Even Ghibli movies didn’t start coming here until disney acquired distribution rights which was the late 90’s

It’s really time that show got its flowers, everybody thought it was a Cowboy Bebop clone (myself included) when it debuted.

Outlaw Star was peak 90s anime.

I liked it more than cowboy bebop, :yeshrug:

The cowboy bebop movie is the real deal though

Here is the vid I made for Akira a week or 2 ago

The dystopian and cyberpunk anime series/films from the 80s and 90s are top notch, Akira sure is a master price, but there are others just as good:

Spriggan 1998 (best animated chase sequence of any anime ever made)
Cyber City OEDO 808
Ghost In The Shell (The og from 1995)
AD Police (1990)
Wicked City
Angel Cop
Black Magic M-66
Armitage III
Demon City Shinjuku
Trigun (1998)
Psycho Diver: Soul Siren
Genocyber (gorefest )

Back when we had quality entertainment, from toys to music :banderas:

No love for Golgo 13? The game was good too

Back then you had to find a connect to get it on VHS, either Chinatown or friends. People wanted the uncut, un-americanized stuff

Reminds me when one of my classmates started bragging they had a Super Famicom instead of the SNES 🙄
