I don't know, man.

There's tons of cats who live on the radio and can't sell an album to save their lives. It's not like it was in the 90's. We have iTunes and shyt now. People can just cop 2-3 joints off the album. They don't even need to buy the whole album anymore. Half of the albums I copped back in the day, were copped because I wanted one track. LOL!! You don't have to go through that anymore.

yeah thats not my point though. a radio single may not be enough to sell but if you wanna sell after the first week you need something reminding people your album is in the store. point is that this theory of everyone hating yeezus and word of mouth hurting its sales doesnt hold any water when MBDTF had the same trajectory until AOTL hit the radio. MBDTF had better first week sales but also way more promotion.

I disagree. the game changed breh

Not really... once you reach a certain status you don't need radio but until you get there you need radio to increase your visibility...

Kanye & Jay don't need radio because they're Kanye & Jay... Kendrick & Macklemore needed radio cuz nobody knew who they were...

Shout out to that J. Cole. Dude literally took a year off (2012) came back dropped a dope single and dropped his album with no gimmicks and now he flourishing. I really wasn't expecting him to be back to number #1 this week though... :whew:

Ye was my nikka I hate it had to be him.... :wow:

Weeks later and the CDs hasn't grown on me, 4 dope songs and that it. even with some of the bad music I just wish Yeezus had one set direction or concept but its all over the place and the thing that hurts him the most is that the females ain't fukkin with it at ALL.

Between J. Cole, Wale, and Jay-Z its looks like Roc Nation is having a pretty good summer :ld:

With the way fans have been reacting to Born Sinner and Yeezus it's surprising there's only an 8,000 difference. Ye's still got the worldwide sales battle on lock though. Plus Yeezus is the number one album on Spotify while Born Sinner is 5.

I'm just happy that rappers have been topping the charts for almost a month after the year they had last year.

Black women who were in college or grad/law/med school in the aughts purchase MUCH of Kanye's music. We wanna hear rapping over an old school soul sample. We don't wanna hear odd weird cutting edged experimental BS. We won't buy it. We are not THAT dedicated to hip hop. -_-

--> aq out <--

Speak for yourself, I am dedicated to hip hop, and music in general. I listen to a lot of shyt outside of hip hop, ye simply didn't execute his album well. It's that reality check usher and ne-yo got going after that EDM money, white and blacks alike liked you for your true sound, not what you thought they'd like.

About the Cole vs Kanye.

I think we should recognize this has more to do with that Coles album is selling good, rather then Kanyes selling bad.

431,000 is okay in this climate.

(ofc Kanye would have sold even more if he had put out a solid album instead of this roller coaster of quality)

What that is, is new fans going back to hear what people are sayin' was Jay's last classic album. Those are people who didn't fukk with him before. Who'd buy The Black Album just now? A decade later and shyt. LOL!!

But the real news, is how Cole has sold more records than Ye. For all of the hype and all these pseudo artsy "fans" that swear they love Ye's "vision" and direction for the album, where is the support for it? So many people sayin' it's "classic" and talkin' about how it's changing music, but no one is actually buying the album. That is a true sign of the times. Some cats just wanna pretend to be fans, but you see they're not putting their money out there at all.

I agree but a lot of truly new stuff is divisive and therefore don't sell as well. Not saying yeezus is genius but I can think of quite a few highly influential albums that sold poorly compared to the rest of the artists catalog. Just doesn't happen much in hip hop.

Jay -Z stay winning all over

Exactly

Magna Carta Holy Grail = Platinum on day 1 and soon to be #1
Yeezus = #1 album without a major single soon to be Gold
Born Sinner = Now his 2nd #1 album.

But I gotta give it to Cole. To get this #1 cause this was really his last week to to do it. Jay is going to smash the charts for the next couple of weeks. Cole needs to start thinking about more singles and continue to ride this wave. "Yeezus" obviously has mixed word of mouth cause the sales have been lackluster. But even KanYe's worst album will be a Gold effort. With the person that said Ye was having a 50 dropoff, I don't agree. KanYe's highest selling album is 3x Platinum. His 1st 3 went multi and Then 3 after that are going Platinum. 2 went Gold. That's 8 albums in 9 years and all of them certified. Is Ye falling off? Well it depends. Yes I think musically he is falling off. But he still demands interest. I don't think 50 can even get a #1 album right now and hasn't been able to sustain any longevity on the charts in years.

A$AP Rocky had a Top 10 Billboard Song & still didn't go Gold...

It took Kendrick 3 Top 40 Billboard Songs to reach Platinum which he still is about 40,000 short of...

Both these dudes were all over radio & BET/MTV prior to their releases...

Future is all over the radio & featured on nearly everyone's Singles & STILL isn't a Gold artist...

Like I said... name an artist who blew up without radio...

You've got to be trolling... :dead:
