Mormons are on that :mjpls: even more than regular white folks. There is a sizeable LDS population where I'm at now and it's already too much for me. Couldn't imagine living in a spot where they're 70-80% of the population.
Salt Lake is only ~45% LDS compared to over 70% the rest of Utah. St George is the largest city in Southern Utah and is around ~65%. Salt Lake is gonna be a lot less restrictive than the rest of Utah period...

I've met plenty of Mormons now, and ive heard the "behind closed doors" but not so secret racism they on. A bunch of they daughters and granddaughters go crazy at the sight of a black man, though 😆 I've curved two of em myself, white chicks not my main play and if I'm gonna go for white I don't want the white bytches who thirsting all over me on some black fetish shyt...
Couldn't imagine living in utah :mjlol: . But then again I've heard Vegas outside the strip is trash so idk:manny:. Will probably visit Vegas sometime next year though.
Vegas is fukking garbage, consider Salt Lake instead!
What the fukk is this thread? Lmao.

Vegas is growing rapidly. Once NBA shows up, we'll have basically every type of major sports team.

Marijuana is legal, food is amazing, things are open 24 hours... The list goes on.

Unless you're looking for decent public schools or just hate the heat, Vegas and SLC shouldn't even be in the same sentence.
Salt Lake (29) is a larger DMA than Vegas (40), there's more people and more dollars in the general Salt Lake region than the Vegas Valley:

So Vegas doesn't really have size in its favor here. It does have the fact that it's an international tourist draw in its favor, that brings in billions more in revenue that Vegas wouldn't even have...

I'll always have a problem with cities who neglect the locals in favor of tourists. Vegas is notoriously low wage. The black median household income in Vegas is ~$35-36,000; the black median household income in Salt Lake is ~$50-51,000. There's more of us in Vegas but we don't make as much and more of us are impoverished...

Vegas is going to reach a critical mass. It's in a high drought region, with a rising cost of living, and an economy reliant on tourist dollars to float the ship. NHL, NFL, soon MLB in town, all these entities competing with racing, golf, UFC, boxing, there isnt enough money here to sustain this long term. I'm not talking 5 years, think 10+ years. When tourism is hit again, where is the revenue coming from?

Salt Lake in comparison is an outstanding sports city. It has a larger market than Vegas so it could support more big leagues and in fact NHL is possibly coming here from Phoenix. It's an infinitely more beautiful city, greater geographic location, great restaurants, parks and shopping...

The reality is neither one of these places are elite spots for black people, neither are even B-grade cities for blacks. Maybe B- at the most. Different strokes for different folks but Vegas is one of the most bland, redundant, boring large cities I've been to, giving places like KC and Indy a run for their money...

For me, I don't care that shyt is open 24/7, most cities have a place or few with 24/7 services. I don't need the whole city open all night because I'm not out all night. I don't care for casinos inside every business, I'm not dying to gamble with my paper. Most large cities have good dining options, Vegas isn't cornering the market there. Weed should be legal everywhere so +1 to LV and the cities that are, but I'm a non-smoker. Most large cities have decent shopping...

I have kids and the health of the public education system is a big deal, also the health of the local black community matters. These things matter. Vegas is better than some places, not as good as others...

The Strip is the same type of entertainment district you can find in many places from Times Square to Wilshire or Hollywood, and many places in between, minus 1001 casinos. It's not that unique besides just offering a thousand places to lose your money at...

I can't think of anything I'd sell Vegas on, that other cities don't also do well, and in most cases do better. The Vegas infrastructure is terrible, on contrast SLC has a robust light and commuter rail system...

Vegas is not like that...

Salt Lake City barely has any Blacks and it is filled with Mormons and Vegas would seem cool for a few days before it starts to get boring since it’s not much to do outside the strip.

I’ll go with Vegas. :yeshrug:

Just moved to Vegas...Summerlin specifically and I drove through SLC on my way down, which was beautiful

One thing about Vegas I've already realized is the strip might as well not even be here as a local unless you work there, though I'm sure that biases local politics against locals. I agree the strip gets old after a few days but the notion that there's nothing to do outside of it is just false. Vegas is an entire metro area outside of the strip and has must things other metro areas have.

State income/property/business tax -> Vegas
Diverse population -> Vegas
Outdoors - SLC though Vegas has spots a few hours away
Entertainment - Vegas
Housing - I'm assuming SLC but Vegas is still cheaper than most major cities

I get the "couldn't make it in Cali" vibes but that's only if you're coming from CA. I could live in CA but there's not enough there to put up with the cost of living just to say I live in CA, imo. And I thought living in the desert would be bland but Summerlin and their network of suburbs got it looking green as fukk with the desert as the backdrop. Looking out in my backyard, you would never know you were in the desert except for the lack of grass

Where did you move from? And what are some things away from The Strip you'd refer to tourists?

I think the point of reference if where people come from, or where they've been, can influence all of our perceptions of Vegas...

For transparency sake, I'm not a fan of desert climate in general. I've been here a month and a half and also spent two months working in El Paso, I'd never voluntarily move to the desert unless that desert location was unbelievably awesome. The dearth of water and grass isn't the wave for me...

When I say "there's nothing outside The Strip" I don't mean it literally, I mean, what is in Vegas off The Strip that enhances The Vegas Experience? The Vegas Experience pretty much is The Strip.

Vegas is a hell hole outside of the strip/tourist area.

SLC has better economic diversity for job options, is an outdoor mecca type place if you're into skiing/biking, and probably has low crime
Main advantage for LV imo is : weed, proximity to LA, and entertainment options if you like live shows

I get what you mean. I'm coming from Seattle so my perspective is probably different.

There seems to plenty of outdoor activities from red Rock to mt Charleston (just not during the middle of summer), and obviously the entertainment is here (though I haven't found the black nightlight spots outside the strip yet) but I get that it doesn't make Vegas any more unique than the next big city.

I just think Vegas is unique in that everyone has their own perception but rarely is it based from anything other than the strip looking out. The first handful of times I visited I thought it was a hell hole outside of the strip just cause the few blocks off of the strip looked like that. Henderson and Summerlin don't look like that though but I had no reason to venture that far out as a tourist

How much money would you recommend having saved up before moving to Henderson or Summerlin? I'm considering moving over there, still live at my mom's house.

Rents are ~1500 on the low end. Gas is I think 4-4.50 rn. If you work in Vegas proper, your commute is probably gonna be 20-30 minutes one way. Most bills are pretty standard price but summer electricity will be up considering the heat. It can be around 200 bucks or more just for that depending on your payment plan.

Factor in how you eat and what you do for fun and you can do the math from there.

This imo is a blasphemous comparison. The food alone in Vegas shyts all over Utah as a whole lol.

Can live in Henderson, food, concerts, sports gonna just get bigger too. All major sports will be there eventually, boxing/ufc, etc. nba summer league there. Been to both plenty of times. No contest.

I'd say the challenge isn't savings but employment. Vegas is a tourist city and the job market is not as diverse so if you don't have a remote job or a job lined up, it can be tough finding a job that you can walk into and live good off of in Vegas. Sure there are tons of jobs due to the strip but they don't pay well enough for you to really enjoy Vegas as a local imo...and you're forced to be on the strip, which I can imagine would make anyone hate Vegas or just that side of it over time

Thanks @RareAirBorne good points. I am an unskilled worker as well right now. I live in Americus, Georgia and work in a restaurant.

You make decent money now? You ain’t gotta be super wealthy. It’d be nice though if you made decent bread. Another aspect of being close to Vegas is the networking opportunities. Whether it’s connecting with people/tourists on the strip or connecting with the mad conventions that happen there, it’s imo a great area for networking/entrepreneurship opportunities.

Thanks bro! No, I don't make decent money right now. I have about 7,000 dollars saved up though.
