So, in an effort to reach the youth, his Noah’s Arc Foundation has filmed a series of 60-second public service announcements he and his mother unveiled Friday at a Near West Side community center.

The “Chicago Stand Up” PSA campaign urges Chicagoans to put down the guns and stand up for peace.

“The summer months bring a lot of violence, and we felt it was urgent to get this PSA out now in order to bring some hope, change and support to the community,” the Bulls center said. “I appreciate the support Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the city of Chicago have provided in working to secure participation of the local news stations to run the PSA and raise awareness about this critical issue.”

Using the hashtag #ChicagoStandUp, the PSA’s feature Noah and Bulls guard Derrick Rose, are voiced by Chicago rapper/actor Common, and also showcases some influential community leaders, along with local youth.

No, violence isn't what's fukking up the black community, lack of funding for schools in black communities is what's fukking it up. Systemic roadblocks to keep people poor are what's fukking up the community, schools being shut down, or having 30+ kids per class is even more of a problem than the violence. The violence is a symptom of the real problem not the cause.

Poverty breeds violence, best way to keep a people poor is to make sure they don't get the proper education and it will limit upward mobility, but hey.....what about black on black crime.

Violent crime rates have more to do with poverty levels in a neighborhood than with the race of local residents, new research has found.

A study of Columbus neighborhoods found that violent crime rates in extremely disadvantaged white neighborhoods were very similar to rates in comparable Black neighborhoods.

The violent crime rate in highly disadvantaged Black areas was 22 per 1,000 residents, not much different from the 20 per 1,000 rate in similar white communities.
