During my lifetime I've seen them build from almost the ground up to what they have today. Just off that, I've seen what someone can do with the opportunity. Look at the hatian revoltion. If you was around then you would have been condemning THEIR behavior instead of the oppressors that they eventually overthrew. You would have been telling them not to complain about their oppressors and to change themselves without acknowledging the problem of the oppressors. To ignore environment in regards to crime being committed is ridiculous. EVERYONE with some smarts understands that socioeconomic status plays a role into crime AS DOES personal action. To pretend that its only one side (personal action)is the same lazy approach that racist/ignorant cacs take on this subject. They dont want to look at the actions of their ancestors that oppressed blacks for 400+years and held them down. They just want to look at the effects of that oppression and talk down on blacks some more even though society has a part to play in that. 60 years of release( and they just let up a little not to where we are equal) isnt going to make up for 400. 400 years where we couldnt get equal education or equal employment opportunities. But thats their fault that they still feel the effects of that and not the society that perpetrated it.
