From the Idiom section of Free Dictionary.com:

http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/same+difference

Something that you say which means that the difference between two things is not important. IE, They were married for forty years, or was it thirty? Same difference - it was a long time anyway.

In this case there's really no difference between 30 or 40 years in the grand scheme of things.

Eh....that's being a smart ass but it's not really the correct usage of it. :heh:

It's meant to be used when two things are the same, or the differences are so small as to be inconsequential. If I say Endris Elbow and you say "nah man, it's Irdis Elba" and I say "same difference"....that's not the same thing at all. That's how a lot of people use it though, humorously.

Fred.
thanks for clearing that up, I was insanely confused. I'm just an a$$hole. :heh:

If it's any consolation most people would just take it as you making a joke. "Same difference" is so commonly misused that people assume it's on purpose for humor.

Fred.
now if people could start taking my sarcastic humor as a joke. I guess I can be convincing sometimes, but that's supposed to be a part of the humor.

I have the same problem man. A lot of people are programmed by sitcoms. If you say some funny shyt with a straight face they will assume you're serious.

I have a friend who literally CANNOT SENSE SARCASM. He hated me for the first couple years of highschool until I realized he took everything I said seriously. He's gotten a lot better at recognizing it but he never employs it himself. It actually made me become a much less sarcastic person, which I guess in hindsight was a good thing :heh:
