If he lost at Takeover, then that kills the surprise of him coming up at PAYBACK... even though people assume he's coming up (which he prolly will) we still dont know for certain. Thats better booking than just having him lose at TAKEOVER. He might come up, he might not. We dont know whats going to happen. Thats good booking.

Finn still doesn't have much of a personality. It's hard to say how well he'll do on the main roster.

He's a much better heel than face. Although I thought he was pretty good in 2015 he's just fallen back a bit character wise this year.

Good shyt for Joe and it lets them bring Finn up. I really don't want them to go AJ vs Finn from the jump. I'd have them as a super group then break up over the MITB then have a grudge match at SummerSlam.

AJ replaced Finn and led Bullet Club to even bigger heights, including the championship that mattered...but Finn started the squad.

He turns heel, leaving NXT an a$$hole refusing to fight Joe again, going on to torment AJ (with Karl and Luke) for surpassing him again, to even the playing field and begin a feud between them.

That's in the bag writing. It briskly acknowledges their history, then writes new chapters. Down the line, we can see Demon Balor introduced as an alternate personality babyface or whatever.

Introduce Finn Balor as someone who can go toe to toe with the revered AJ Styles, but still be a dikkhead, and cheat to win. A cocky prick with two serious goons, and someone who can immediately make an impact, all by interrupting the WWE main event scene.

As a face, I agree he's pretty bland.

As a heel, though - he was so good at working the fans that New Japan had to set up a hotline to deal with complaints about Finn and Bullet Club cheating in matches. He talked about it on Jericho's podcast.
