We were talking about something like this a few weeks ago. The vast majority of samples on major label releases - be it rap, pop, country, whatever - is cleared. No issues there. But most underground rap shyt has uncleared samples. The $$$ generated from underground rap isn't enough for most artists to pursue lawsuits, because you'll end up spending more on legal representation than whatever $ you'd get from uncleared samples on a Roc Marci or Curren$y album.

But imagine Spotify, now that it has this partnership, reaching out to sampled artists and offering to pay legal in order to pursue legal action and ultimately remove underground rap from the platform. Maybe they offer higher stream payments to the original artists - many of whom make obscure or unpopular music anyway - in order to help them collect their legal cash.

Bandcamp might end up being the last place you can buy underground rap besides the artist's official websites. But even that site may not be safe in the long term, given I've seen people have some pretty ugly complaints about new ownership/management there.
Bandcamp lost their integrity to me once they started pushing A.I. artists and labels...it's only a matter of time before they're fully compromised.

There's just simply too much undiscovered music out there to fully bring an end to sample-based hip hop, although some cats who aren't super creative and just rely on loops may have to up their game(Looking at Nicholas Craven)

It's not just the album sales..they can go after other income like shows etc
Even artists who release heavily sampled albums and mixtapes for free, because they can't afford to clear them, make a bundle off shows and shyt

Most of Big KRIT's catalogue is full of uncleared samples

You shouldn't have been posting samples publicly in the first place. People needing bragging rights on the internet is part of the reason we're here now. Doing lawyer's and music exec's jobs for them.

no, it was an underground forum of beatmakers and vinyl collectors. It wasn't some "hey look at me, I know this.." This was over 20 years ago when we started doing this. Youtube wasn't even around when we started.

Fair, but still a public access site. You may not have, but you know a bunch of try hards went flexing like goofies with that info.
